The project under development investigates the construction of memory marks in the urban context, especially in cities with a history of urbanization, migration and intense memorial overlaps, speculating on new ways of thinking about monument through dialogue with social movements and experimental artworks. Carrying out research in the context of her PhD program in Berlin, Erica Ferrari aims to study the processes of public space in the city relating to the complexity of the memorial landmarks, to the social and cultural use of buildings that foster a new type of relationship with the surroundings and to the issue of artistic production and identity. The idea is to also map a sculptural production of another order, generally associated with anonymous and serial work, presented especially in constructions linked to the working class, which forms an important ballast of physical memory constantly threatened by real estate speculation.
The residency is part of the PhD project ‘The memory of the excluded: conceptions of monument through artistic action’.
Erica Ferrari holds a CAPES/Print Scholarship for her PhD Program at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of University of São Paulo. This study is partly financed by the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - Brasil (CAPES) - Finance Code 001.
