Lily Consuelo Saporta Tagiuri will begin her residency at ZK/U with research into the local geography and environmental conditions of the city. Her research will inquire: What grows here naturally? What is the relationship between the proximity to water and those living here? What animals live here? How does sun, rain, and animal life reframe borders of the neighborhood? What risks does the ecosystem face in the coming years? In response to her research she will create a series of non-extractive interventions and workshops which engage with the natural landscape and interspecies inhabitants. As of now she plans to construct a variety of rain catchers that hold local water, a series of bird seed and plant sculptures that encourage local wildlife, and a solar oven that amplifies the sun falling on the land. Ideally this would take the form of an outdoor kitchen where food can be served. Through this process and through these interventions, she is interested in inviting Berlin’s inhabitants into intimate and celebratory conversation with the environmental ecosystem they are part of.
