OPENHAUS 20/10/2016
Installation, performance, video and artist talks
Free entry
For the autumn version the ZK/U invites you to another OPENHAUS. This time there will be a performance and an oversized projection about the “objectification of the human being”, an installation that deals with the question of what a "wall" is or symbolizes, and presentations of books, drawings and current projects of the artists in residence. You will also have the possibility to get flight tickets to unknown countries from a fictional travel agency.
The OPENHAUS is a regular public format that takes place every month in ZK/U, inviting audiences to connect with the hosted projects and to explore the process of its residency program.
Don’t miss the opportunity to meet the artists in residency and explore ZK/U’s space and surroundings, to ask questions, to discuss and to exchange ideas about ongoing projects and artistic practices.

Intervention, performance, experiment
I’m going to exhibit initial idea of my upcoming project that is an intervention to public space. It can be performative action, and also be an experiment in urban space.
I plan to make a movable wall at some specific sites in the city. I’ll cut an existing wall or construct new wall, put a shaft at the center, and make it rotatable. People who walk by can push this wall and it starts turnaround like a revolving door. The space is always changing through this movement, and functions of the space are involved in it.

Fluid boundaries
What is the meaning of boundary to you? We cross the national borders and move around. The boundary is visible at the same time invisible, because it is physically drawn in the map but exists in memory as well as psychological experience. The boundary can be found in regional, national, political, racial, and sexual difference. There are many reasons people choose to cross the boundary: such as political asylum, the fear of war, colonialization, the economical difficult, or simply for a better life and bright future. Therefore the boundary is affected by politics as well as personal stories, which are created by people in everyday. In this project, I will collect people's story which reflect not only personal memory but also political power relationship between boundaries.
During the process of interaction with people, I propose that I open a pusdo travel agency, which sells a ticket to the “another land”. This another land is an utopia where might be full of bright future and unknown fantasy. To get a ticket to this “another land”, I ask participants to give one of their photos which records their memory that they crossed the boundaries. Once I get the photo, I will print it through photo scanner and collect their meories. In this way, we will have a chance to discuss about the meaning of boundary through the archives of memory.

A collection of books and essays are displayed around the centralized topic of historical and contemporary art activism. The publications are a part of the discussion series THE NEW ART ACTIVISM. PARAFICTION, ETHICS AND COLLECTIVISM that examines and provokes discourse around theoretical and philosophical approaches within cultural activism.
The platform functions as a reading group where participants will meet once a week at ZK/U and discuss a specific topic ranging from urban activism, self-organisation and DIY, to fictional political activism, occupy movements and counter-economics.

Home Is Where the Trash Is
Fraggle Rock, 1985
I find the potential of the Artist Dis-Placement project in the two following aspects.
Being close to significant socio-political aspects of the ordinary life in a city. As an inter-artist I am able to gain the perspective of workers in relation to a relatively huge company with a long tradition and their relation to the city of Berlin and its citizens. This perspective has great “story” potential and happens mainly with no attention of the intellectual sphere of the society. I consider such peripheral perspectives as vital for a contemporary artistic way of thinking.
Reaching the situation when a huge amount of waste and unwanted material is named trash. This material obviously still has a value and many possible ways of usage. During the project I was able to observe and explore the initial route of such material from the collection to the first processing. Where and under which circumstances such material is transformed is still to be found. Sadly, against my original expectation I was not able to encounter, modify, re-use and distribute any of such material personally and include this aspect into my artistic process.

Black Bodies - Dark Energy - Black Bodies - Dark Matter
Dark energy, Black bodies and Dark matter are theoretical concepts within physics. we seek to marry these ideas, moulding their meanings to form new ways of realising blackness, both socially and as a construct. Delving into the dark we rethink our notions of darkness, of blackness and propose new ways of being, freed from darkness and lightness, blackness and whiteness, as we realise that an entire spectrum is available to us all.
this multi-dimensional installation and extravaganza will involve storytelling through improvisational soundscapes, theatre and performance art.
featured artists include: Tito Aderemi-Ibitola and bólátitó

This proposal takes its point of departure in the Silo City, a mobile house built from an old grain silo conceived by architect Jan Korbes and Refunc collective. The experience of living a few days in this unit motivated me to play with ideas such as round space architectures, the minimum living, the necessity of recycling materials and the social implications of occupying public spaces. The proposal will take the form of a set of drawings-collages that incorporate reproductions of original drawings illustrating Silo City displayed on tables with round cut out boards, intervened ZK/U postcards and modified wooden pallets according to logarithmic schemes. The concept of recycling, which is central in this architectural project, is addressed here Both in terms of the material resources and as a recreation strategy.
NomadicArt
ZK/U + M
NomadicArt is offering diverse creative and cultural acitivities, that empowers newly arrived citizens to enter the ‘public arena’ despite legal obstacles restricting their mobility and inclusion in social life. The workshops and events facilitated by NomadicArt are co-created by migrants and experts. They provide a safe space for exchange and action. Besides that, NomadicArt is connecting and including various stakeholders from society: migrants, refugees, activists, researchers, volunteers and other actors in the close neighborhood.
