Sometimes it's the small changes that prepare for great things: Recently, brackets for the glass façade were installed on our construction site. Only a few more days, then most parts of the house will be enclosed with the new glass façade. And that invites us to dream in anticipation of the reopening of the house next year …

Anfang des Jahres startete am ZK/U das Projekt ClimART. Das dreijährige Reallabor (2023 - 2025) zielt darauf ab, die urbane Klimaresilienz durch künstlerische Interventionen zu steigern und neue Perspektiven auf die bestehenden und kommenden Herausforderungen zu generieren. Nicht-humane, humane und trans-humane Lebewesen werden der eigenen Klimabetroffenheit über interaktive und datengestützte Installationen begegnen. 

STAY TUNED: In Zukunft werden in kollaborativen, öffentlichen Workshops die verschiedenen Ideen und Prototypen gemeinsam weiterentwickelt und diskutiert. Zum kommenden OPENHAUS MAI am 25.05. wird es zudem die Möglichkeit geben, mit dem Projekt und einer non-humanen Projektpartnerin in Kontakt zu kommen!

Das Projekt kooperiert mit der StadtManufaktur der TU Berlin und wird durch das Bundesumweltministerium im Rahmen des Programms „Maßnahmen zur Anpassung an die Folgen des Klimawandels“ gefördert.

The ClimART project started at the ZK/U at the beginning of the year. The three-year real laboratory (2023 - 2025) aims to increase urban climate resilience through artistic interventions. Non-human, human and trans-human beings will confront their own climate vulnerability through interactive and data-driven installations. 

STAY TUNED: In the future, the various ideas and prototypes will be further developed and discussed together in collaborative, public workshops. Ein Herzensprojekt am ZK/U geht zu Ende: die TURN2 Residencies. Nach über 2 Jahren kuratorischer Rechercheaufenthalte in Berlin, Johannesburg, Lagos und Nairobi, ist es nun der perfekte Moment, auf die gemeinsame Zeit zurückzuschauen. In den TURN2Talks sprechen Jesse Gerard und Huda Zikry, zwei der insgesamt 7 Kurator:innen die im ZK/U Residents waren, jeweils mit ihren Mentorinnen über ihre postkolonialen, kuratorischen Praktiken, aktuellen Forschungsprojekte und ihre Residency in Berlin.

A project close to our hearts at ZK/U is coming to an end: the TURN2 Residencies. After more than 2 years of curatorial research residencies in Berlin, Johannesburg, Lagos and Nairobi, it is now the perfect moment to look back on this time together. In the TURN2Talks, Jesse Gerard and Huda Zikry, two of the seven curators who were residents at ZK/U, talk to their mentors about their postcolonial curatorial practices, current research projects and their residency in Berlin.

The TURN2 Residencies are funded by the TURN2 programme of the Kulturstiftung des Bundes Funded by the Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien (Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media).

In Zusammenarbeit mit Goethe-Institut Nigeria und SAVVY Contemporary sucht das ZK/U für die Lagos-Berlin Residency 2023/24 erneut nach künstlerischen Projekten. Dieses Jahr stehen neue Modelle und Möglichkeiten der Zusammenarbeit von Maschine und Mensch im Fokus: Können wir über die übliche Dichotomie von Techno-Pessimismus und Techno-Optimismus hinausgehen? Wie können wir mit ethischen Überlegungen zu einer fairen Nutzung umgehen, wenn wir bedenken, dass neue Technologien auf riesige Datensätze, "People-Sets" und "Artist-Sets" zurückgreifen? Auf welche Weise werden die Produktion, die Verbreitung und die Rezeption dieser neuen Technologien durch das fortbestehende koloniale Erbe beeinflusst?

This year, the focus is on new models and possibilities of collaboration between machine and human: Can we go beyond the standard techno-pessimism and techno-optimism dichotomy? How can we handle ethical considerations about fair use, given that these new technologies rely on massive datasets, "people-sets", and "artist-sets"? In what ways are the production, circulation, and reception of these new technologies influenced by continuing colonial legacies?

The call is directed towards artists and curators, application deadline is May 7 2023. More information about the programme and application modalities.

Kommende Woche, vom 09. bis 12. Mai, lädt das Kunstkollektiv MOHA zusammen mit den Bezirkskrankenschwestern der lokalen Organisation 4beimir/Futur Uno aus Moabit in ihren neuen, temporären Raum “Who Cares?” ein.
In den Räumlichkeiten des Theater X (Wiclefstraße 32, 10551 Berlin) wird an den vier Tagen ein vielfältiges Programm stattfinden, unter anderem Filmscreenings mit anschließenden Diskussionsrunden, die Einführung in ein neues Pflegewörterbuch und Performances zum Thema Pflege.

Next week, from May 09 to 12th, the art collective MOHA and the district nurses of the local organization 4beimir/Futur Uno from Moabit invites you to their new shared temporary space "Who Cares?".
In Theater X (Wiclefstraße 32, 10551 Berlin), they will host a diverse program over four days, including film screenings followed by discussions, the introduction of a new nursing dictionary and performances on the topic of nursing.

Das dritte OPENHAUS dieses Jahr findet am 25. Mai statt. Ab 19 bis 23 Uhr öffnen die Residents des ZK/U Berlin die Türen ihrer Ateliers für alle Interessierte.
Besucher:innen können mehr über die unterschiedlichen Interessenschwerpunkte der Residents erfahren, welche sich in Sound, Installationen, Performances, Video, Forschung und Text wiederspiegeln. Die Residents freuen sich darauf, Einblick in ihre Überlegungen und aktuellen Arbeitsprozesse zu geben und diese zu diskutieren. 

In Kürze veröffentlichen wir die teilnehmenden Residents und das Programm auf unserer Website. Der Eintritt zum OPENHAUS ist kostenfrei.

The third OPENHAUS this year will take place on May 25. From 7 to 11 pm the residents of ZK/U Berlin will open the doors of their studios to the public.
Visitors are invited to experience the diverse interests of the artists-in-residence, reflected and resonating in sound, installations, performances, video, research and text. The residents are looking forward to share their ideas and work-in-progress.

We will publish the participating residents and the programme soon on our website. Admission to the OPENHAUS is free of charge.

Ganz zum Ende noch ein kleines Save the Date: Wir laden herzlich zur offenen Programmwerkstatt und Sommerfest im ZK/U am 29. und 30. Juni 2023 ein. Wir möchten sowohl gemeinsam über die thematische und programmatische Entwicklung des Hauses nachdenken als auch schonmal bei Essen, Getränken und Musik zusammen üben, wie viele Menschen, ungewöhnliche Ideen und gute Laune das Haus zukünftig beherbergen wird.
