Gal Amiram

Gal Amriam is a research-based artist working with photography, video, and installation. Her work is located at the nexus of social documentary and conceptual photography around themes of settler colonialism and imaging technologies. She engages in aesthetic investigations that examine the politics of visibility and how vision and optics render people, places, and histories invisible.
Amriam earned her MFA from ArtCenter College in 2017 and her BFA from Shenkar College in 2013. She has exhibited her work at venues such as the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, The Center for Digital Art, and the American Jewish University. Her work has also been featured at Camera Austria and undocumenta, Documenta 15, Kassel. Amriam has received numerous awards, including the Artis residency grant in 2018 and 2021, The Adams Award in 2022, and a nomination for the Rema Hort Mann Emerging Artist Grant in 2019. Additionally, she served as a visiting faculty member at ArtCenter College from 2020 to 2022 and currently manages its graduate art department. Amriam has been an artist-in-residence at various venues, such as the Vermont Studio Center in 2018, MOCA Tucson in 2019, and ZK/U in 2021 and 2023.
