Valerie Potvin is a French-Canadian artist. In love with European life, she is back in Berlin for a third time. Having explored different mediums ranging from painting to digital technologies, her professional practice crystallized mainly through sculptural installation. For the past 10 years, she has been pursuing her artistic work at national and international level. It founded its place in various exhibitions, in private or institutional commissions, in public art projects and in teaching experiences.
She explores themes related to current events, social and environmental issues and various human suffering. Her work takes more and more a feminist direction. Combinations of fragments evoking the vegetal, human or animal order allows her to create objects with a certain strangeness and poetry, evoking paradoxes of humans. By the relations she establishes between them, compose metaphorical, mysterious and ambiguous fables, from which comes personal and universal narratives.
The project is part of the culture program related to Canada’s Guest of Honour presentation at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2020.
