Liina Leo

(Estonia)

Liina Leo’s work embraces contemporary alienation and questions what means to be new, truly alive and real in current times. Her work is finding connections between bodies and objects while hiding and revealing their inner materiality —our mortal nature. Taking inspiration from historical narratives in a contemporary often urban context, she is questioning the conventional borders of fiction and reality. Furthermore she is interested in similarities between defensible space and modes of protection for artworks in the gallery, while highlighting their connections not only with protection but also non-accessibility and isolation. Liina’s work expresses desires to resist the constraints imposed on our lives by social and political forces, our (mis)perceptions and given value systems.
