Stadtplanung ist komplex! Und komplexe Dinge brauchen Zeit. Nach Monaten der Ungewissheit, ob es mit der Erweiterung des ZK/U weitergehen kann, kam nun die freudige Gewissheit in Form einer Baugenehmigung. Der nicht immer konfliktfreie Weg und mitunter schwierige Abstimmungsprozesse konnten nach Monaten der existentiellen Unsicherheit überwunden werden. Wir sind dankbar, in diesen schwierigen Zeiten soviel Unterstützung und Rückhalt erfahren zu haben. Dank gilt besonders der BVV MItte, die sich wiederholt hinter die Vision des Ausbaus gestellt hat, und mit einem Beschluss das öffentliche Interesse am Ausbau verdeutlichte.
Wir freuen uns endlich ins Machen zu gehen und gemeinsam mit unseren Freunden, Partnern, Nachbarn und Stadtmachern eine konkrete Vision einer inklusiveren, nachhaltigeren und zukunftsgerechteren Stadt zu entwickeln.

Urban planning is a complex topic, and complex topics take time. After months of not knowing whether the planned ZK/U extensions will be able to commence, we have now finally received the much anticipated building permit. The path towards this permit has not always been free of conflict and was riddled with difficult coordination processes. Nonetheless, it has finally been trodden successfully after months of existencial uncertainties. We are immeasurably grateful for the extent of assistance and support that we have experienced throughout this difficult time. Special thanks to BVV Mitte, that has repeatedly backed the vision of the extension plans and, through means of a resolution, has proven the public interest for the project. We are excited to finally step onwards into the making process and to, together with friends, partners, neighbours, and city makers, build a concrete vision of an inclusive, sustainable city ready for the future.

Die Oktober-Ausgabe des OPENHAUS lädt das Publikum zu einem Abend voller verschiedener Kunstformate ein: von einer interaktiven Tür-Skulptur im Moabiter Stadtgarten bis hin zu Videoprojektionen. Mit verschiedenen Hintergründen und Forschungsgebieten der Kunstschaffenden, bietet dieses OPENHAUS eine Vielfalt an Themen – sei es die sozioökonomische Lage, das tägliche Leben oder etweas ganz anderes.

Teilnehmende Kunstschaffende: Leman Sevda Darıcıoğlu, Willem de Haan, Afọpẹ́fólúwa Òjó, Jesse Siegel, Tzu Ting Wang und Trystan Williams werden vor Ort sein, um über ihre Arbeit zu reden.

OPENHAUS October invites the audience to see various art formats, starting from an interactive door sculpture installed in the public park to video projections. Coming from different backgrounds and research fields, the topics addressed by the artists will be diverse, exploring contemporary socio-economic themes, daily life situations and more.

Participating resident artists: Leman Sevda Darıcıoğlu, Willem de Haan, Afọpẹ́fólúwa Òjó, Jesse Siegel, Tzu Ting Wang and Trystan Williams will be available to talk about their practice.

GÜTERVERKEHR is a brother project of GÜTERMARKT, which is a co-production and learning platform. In GÜTERVERKEHR, experts and local actors come together and participants become co-producers. In October, for the last time in 2020, we are inviting workshops for GÜTERVERKEHR under the topic of Circular Economy.

Wir drücken unsere Solidarität mit den Partnerorganisationen des ZK/U Berlin – Urban Platform Minsk und Kryly Khalopa in Brest – in Belarus aus, die seit den Präsidentschaftswahlen am 9. August 2020 unermüdlich für eine freie Gesellschaft in ihrem Land auf die Straße gehen. Zu ihren Forderungen gehören die Durchführung neuer transparenter und freier Wahlen, das Ende der brutalen Polizeigewalt und volles Recht auf Versammlungen und Meinungsfreiheit.

We express our deep solidarity with the partner organisations of ZK/U Berlin – Urban Platform Minsk and Kryly Khalopa in Brest – in Belarus. Since the presidential elections on August 9, 2020, they have been fighting relentlessly for a free society in their country by taking the streets in demonstation. Their demands inculde new, transparent elections, the end of vicious police brutality and limitless right for assembly and freedom of speech.

Im letzten Eintrag ins CTB-Journal reflektieren wir über die Art, in welcher das MO Hartera-Projekt in Rijeka verschiedene Teile der Gemeinschaft einbeziehen konnte. Beim Versuch das Viertel rund um die alte Papierfabrik am Rande der Stadt wieder zu beleben stand das Team der Herausforderung gegenüber, Teilnehmende in einen Teil der Stadt zu locken, in der kaum Gemeinschaft stattfindet. Die flexiblen und festen Kommunikations- und Organisationsstrukturen sowie das Eigentumsgefühls über das Projekt bewies sich als der Schlüssel zum bisherigen Erfolg des Projekts. Skater*innen, Biker*innen, Kletterer*innen, und Raver*innen fanden allesamt ihre Niche innerhalb des Projekts, wodurch sie nicht nur dazu beitragen konnten, sondern auch davon profitieren konnten. Außerhalb dieser Strategien zur Einbeziehung der Bevölkerung und ihrer Resultate schauen wir auch nach vorn – wie mahg die Zukunft des Projektes aussehen und wie kann es seine Bemühungen in der Zukunft fortsetzen?

In the latest entry into the CTB Journal, we reflect on the ways in which the MO Hartera project in Rijeka has engaged different parts of the community. Trying to revive the quarter around an old paper mill on the edge of the city, the team faced the challenge of drawing in participants in an area where hardly any communities could be found on site. Having flexible and grounded communication and organisational structures as well as providing the opportunity of actual ownership of the project to the local residents proved key in the project's success thus far. Skaters, bikers, climbers and ravers alike all found their niche within the project, and both contributed and benefited from it in one way or another. Outside of these strategies for community engagement and their results, we also look ahead at what the future of the project might look like and how it might sustain its efforts in the future.
