ARTIST DIS-PLACEMENT

30 Nov 2014 - 30 Dec 2018

The Idea of the Artist Dis-Placement programm is to connect artists to organisations which are not situated in classical context of the art-sphere in order to reach a different engagement and an audience which is not naturally in contact with art. ZK/U aims to look at the ‘invisible’ communal services provided by a city. Through the Artist Dis-Placement the ZK/U is extending its actions to the central organisations of the cities infrastructure.

Artist Dis-Placement No. 1: Viktor Vejvoda at Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR)
July - December 2016

On the 4th of July, Vikor Vjevoda started the first Artist Dis-Placement at the city’s waste management  Berliner Stadtreinigung. Viktor is a czech artist whose past work is already strongly connected to the subjects of re- and upcycling, waste and it’s reusage. He will visit different sections of the organisation over the next six months and, through different methods, develop an art project in close cooperation with BSR employees.

Artist Dis-Placement No. 2: Alona Rodeh at Berliner Feuerwehr (Berlin Fire Brigade)
September 2016 - February 2017

Accompanying the fire fighters for a period of 6 months, her research will focus on the training facilities and workout regime, the daily routines at the station, and fire control itself. Through this research, Alona's aim is to create a new collaborative work within the organization, focusing on new challenging missions, enabling the fire fighters to try new techniques stretching their limits of abilities. Ideally, this will be an event that will spark interest in the wide audience, as well as the members of the organization itself.

Artist Dis-Placement No. 3: Jan van Esch at Deutsches Rotes Kreuz (German Red Cross)
September 2016 - February 2017

Jan will be part of the Artist Dis-Placement program, he will be placed in the DRK (German Red Cross, Berlin branch), a non for profit organisation that works with volunteers. He is specifically interested and wants to look into the diminishing interest of young people being active in older volunteering structures. The project and the topic make him look for a balance between his social science, public health and art background, investigating the question of social engagement and form of youth in society.

Artist Dis-Placement is Part of the  EU Program Artecitya (30 Nov 2014 - 30 Dec 2018)

Within the context of a European cooperation program, KUNSTrePUBLIK, with the ZK/U, is interested in exploring urban communication structures and implementing experiments and projects that foster the conversation between diverse stakeholders in the urban arena. Artecitya, divided in its practical approach (Metapolis), and theoretical approach (Urbanities), is supported by the European Commission, and will bring together artists, architects, town planners and citizens to rethink the cities we live in.

The ZK/U particularly aims at (re)activating the social and spatial relationship between individuals and groups, that are divided by differences of education, income, gender and ethnical background.
ZK/U will therefore offer a variety of opportunities to create connections between individuals and institutions. We are particularly interested in launching activities that connect artists and local businesses, institutions and local initiatives.
The ZK/U has developed programs for the residents, that will allow them to connect to the local and social fabric and that trigger conversations between above mentioned.
The partners of Artecitya are Apollonia (Strasbourg-France), ARTos foundation (Nicosia-Cyprus), CCEA – Center for Central European Architecture (Prague-Czech Republik), Bellastock (Paris-France), Goethe Institute (Thessaloniki-Greece), Helexpo (Thessaloniki-Greece), (KUNSTrePUBLIK (Berlin-Germany), Laznia (Gdansk-Pologne), MoTA (Ljubljana-Slovenia)
