Speisekino Moabit 2014 #1

Food Diaspora

Films, videos and a menu about the complex relationship between cultures and the foods associated. Curated by Juli Saragosa, food by Alison Miller.

For transnational subjects, certain foods are reminiscent of home, the land left behind even generations ago. Ancestral ties are bound to specific cultural methods of food preparation and the intimate interaction of eating together, and from the outsider's viewpoint, form a basis upon which to stereotype, label and categorize. The films and videos of this program display a diversity of approaches to the complex relationship between cultures and the foods associated with them, prejudices that can accompany them, the meanings of words in translation, and access to basic resources.

An evening in cooperation with Innovate Heritage: Conversations between Arts and Heritage, an international and inter/transdisciplinary conference composed of lectures, panel discussions, seminars, exhibitions, performances and films taking place at ZK/U.
