Yalla Yalla FESTIWALLA
The evening will begin with a short theatre performance by the JugendtheaterBüro. This will come along with a traditional Arabic home-cooked dinner, prepared by “District-Mothers” from the neighbourhood.
“Yalla Yalla - FESTIWALLA!” – through this battle cry, teenagers from the district of Moabit conquered the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in October 2011 - one of the city’s big stages. The statement they brought into this house was clear and uncompromising. “We want to have access!”
The movie “FESTIWALLA” follows the young director Asma, the actor Elwin and the audio engineer Zelal working at the JugendtheaterBüro during the last months before the FESTIWALLA. It shows how a strong voice can come out from the anger of teenagers. A voice that is rarely heard, even if it is often talked about. Be careful ! This is no kids-bullshit - we are political.
The JugendtheaterBüro has made it its business to empower teenagers from disadvantaged districts to express their feelings and dreams through theatre. Such a project deserves attention and this is what “FESTIWALLA the movie” is made for.
