The young and inexperienced devil Pug asks Satan to let him spread evil among humankind. But there is a catch: a novice like Pug has little to teach people when it comes to wickedness. Instead, he is left to witness a series of episodes from human life. Through his lens, we encounter Elgar’s only opera, complete in its incompleteness, reconstructed by Percy Young as 'The Spanish Lady' and now heard outside England for the first time.
This event is hosted by Privatoper Berlin. Since 2014, Privatoper Berlin has been bringing rarely performed operas to places where opera is rarely performed. Founded by a group of music enthusiasts with the aim of creating music theatre with friends and for friends, the ensemble transforms a single intensive rehearsal week into a world within the opera and an opera within the world.
