Workshop as part of "They Say I'm Dead"

The Peace Statue "Ari" in Berlin is facing the threat of removal. If the physical monument in the square is forcibly taken down, must she disappear from our memories forever? What if we could transform her into a "ghost"—a resilient presence that no political authority can dismantle?
As part of the group presentation They Say I'm dead, artist Jinran Ha invites you to a collective ritual of memory and algorithmic resistance. Jinran Ha researches Samsin Halmae—a Korean spirit of birth and care—and the ways AI renders non-Western spirit-beings through a colonial lens. 

In this workshop, we will engage with AI image generators, but we do not seek to create perfect images. AI systems often fail to understand marginalized and feminist narratives, reducing them to biased stereotypes. Instead of feeding the machine direct descriptions, we will write "opaque prompts"—spells woven from metaphors of care, entanglement, and resistance. We will welcome the machine's confusion, using its failure to protect Ari from algorithmic capture.

No prior experience with AI or art is needed. Come with your solidarity, and let’s build a decentralized monument that can never be removed. The workshop will be held in English, prompts can be written in any language.
