On Land Politics

FOOD & FOOTAGE – Independent movies in combination with food

17 JUNE 2026 / from 19:00

ZK/U BerlinSiemensstr. 27, 10551, Berlin, Germany

For this edition of FOOD & FOOTAGE, we compiled two short films dealing with the politics of land between urban and 'natural' spaces. Both documentaries highlight local communities and their struggle against extraction and displacement through participatory dynamics and self-organised structures. Either on an empty urban space perceived as dangerous and unplanned, taken over by neighbours and collectives to care and co-create a relevant use for it; or directly on forest land where informal settlements and shelters become a direct way for activism.

An Atlas of Forest Occupations is a documentary that explores forest occupations as sites of resistance, care, and alternative architecture. Travelling between occupations, it documents structures, daily life, and collective strategies of communities defending forests. By highlighting radical sustainability and self-organised living, it brings these overlooked practices into architectural discourse, redefining relationships between shelter, nature, and activism.

The documentary The Places to Those, That Live Them follows the non-profit project ALTER in Mannheim, an open urban meeting place where people from diverse backgrounds come together. As urban redevelopment and rising conflicts threaten the future of the project, the film observes everyday life on the square during a period of uncertainty and explores how community, conflict, and urban reality intersect in public space — and the role such places play in urban coexistence.
