Freiplatz serves as the foundation and research focus for ALBA BERLIN’s upcoming 28.15 Basketball Museum. We are interested in basketball as a game, as a sociocultural phenomenon, and as a vibrant subculture.
As a research initiative, Freiplatz analyzes the physical, organizational, and historical dynamics of public basketball courts, primarily in Berlin but also worldwide. Through this work, we aim to map the complex relationships between urban planning, local grassroots communities, and other stakeholders.
In this context, the award winning documentary Doin’ It In The Park, exploring the rich history, culture, and global influence of pickup basketball in New York City will be screened at FOOD & FOOTAGE.
