Dr. Hadas Kedar (Curator): The Curatorial and the Desert

Talks on Curatorial Practice

Focusing on the Negev desert in the south of Israel, the lecture demonstrates how by considering the people but also the architectural qualities, the traditions, rituals, artistic expressions, flora and fauna that populate the xeriscape our understanding of the desert as both a physical and political terrain becomes rich, complex and multi layered. The desert serves as a backdrop, one that is both a geological phenomenon and mythological creation, to interrogate what, in our imagination, is many times considered an empty site with no cultural value.

Hadas Kedar is an artist and curator and the founder of Arad Contemporary Art Centre and Arad Art and Architecture Residency Program. Recently she works in cooperation with Bedouins.
