Assembly 01: Radical Democracy

22 APRIL 2026 / 18:00
The first Assembly marks the starting point of a process in which a Freundeskreis at the ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics is developed as a living, hybrid structure, and democracy is approached as an open, collective practice. At its core lies the question of how decision-making processes can be shaped collectively beyond human perspectives, incorporating more-than-human actors.
The format brings together inputs, demonstrations, and working sessions into a shared space for thinking and acting. It introduces BeeDAO as a speculative governance model, alongside the Convivial Commons Congress and its operational logic as a mediating instance between data, environment, and decision-making.
Across several workshop phases, key aspects of collective organisation are explored, including possible governance models, the structure of proposals, and different forms of decision-making such as hybrid approaches and mechanisms like quadratic voting. Particular attention is given to the role of non-human actors within these processes, both conceptually and in practice.
A case study translates these questions into a concrete application: proposals for a potential ZK/U summer festival are collaboratively developed, submitted, and evaluated both by participants and through the installation. In this way, initial prototypical decision-making processes emerge within the evolving Freundeskreis.
The evening concludes with a film program on more-than-human perspectives in art and culture, accompanied by a culinary setting that reflects on the relationships between human needs and vegetal agency.
