In 2012, the newly founded Center for Art and Urbanistics (ZK/U) moved into the brick halls of a former freight station in the Moabit district of Berlin. Since then, the independent institution, led by the artist collective KUNSTrePUBLIK, has hosted residencies for artists and researchers who explore and work on urban policy topics in a non-academic context. In 2020, the renovation of the single-story event hall began, overseen by Peter Grundmann Architects, which expanded ZK/U’s usable space by about 1,500 square meters and significantly broadened its institutional possibilities.
Following a tour of the new spaces, ZK/U Co-Director Matthias Einhoff and architect Peter Grundmann will discuss the renovation concept and the new perspectives for the institution with ARCH+ editor Alex Nehmer, from the standpoint of radical urban practices and their contribution to preservation.

Note: The event is free of charge, but the number of spots for the tour (4:30 PM) is limited, so we kindly ask you to register at: [email protected].
The subsequent discussion (5:00 PM), which takes place just before the official reopening of ZK/U as part of Berlin Art Week, can be attended without registration.
