Talks on Curatorial Practice @ Radialsystem
Rooted in the perception of the nocturnal built environment, Rodeh’s research-driven practices explore material cultures, subcultures, and audiovisual expressions of feelings of safety. Rodeh creates large immersive environments incorporating light and sound, directs short films, publishes research-driven artist books, practices night walking, and more. With a focus on the public sphere, she works extensively both inside and outside institutions and museums, collaborating closely with state and municipal players. As an extension of her practice, she advocates for Dark Sky International, an NGO focused on restoring nighttime environments and decreasing light pollution. In her talk, she will focus on a few key works created for and in the public sphere, from ephemeral to temporary and permanent. These will raise questions about authority, agency, cooperation, politics, and other challenges that arise when working in public space.
Alona Rodeh is a Berlin-based visual artist, scenographer, and urban practitioner. Her works are frequently shown in institutional contexts, with large works/solo presentations in places such as, to name a few: Kunstmuseum Gelsenkirchen (2024), Gwangju Biennial (2023), La Casa Encendida Madrid (2021), Kunstpalais Erlangen (2019), Salzburger Kunstverein (2019); CCA Tel Aviv (2013) and others; She installed various permanent public artworks in Germany and Israel.
