Liebe SPEISEKINO Freunde,
am kommenden Donnerstag, dem 15.08.2019, führt uns der Weg nach unten in das Reich der Erde. Der Abend wird gemeinsam mit den Studenten des Social Designs der Design Academy Eindhoven kuratiert, die ihre Arbeiten präsentieren werden und zum Gespräch bereitstehen. Rebecca Stumpf zeigt ihre Installation „Worm Bot“ und Marianne Drews ihre Arbeit „Soils in Residency“.
Der Hauptfilm des Abends ist „Symphony of the Soil“, ein Dokumentarfilm und eine künstlerische Exploration der wundersamen Erde, der die Komplexität und das Mysterium aufwühlt und dabei antikes Wissen mit modernen wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen paart.
Das Menü dazu wird kuratiert und hergerichtet von Richard Ketner und Rebecca Stumpf.
Um 19:00 Uhr öffnen sich die Pforten und ab 19:30 Uhr wird das Essen serviert. Ab 19.45 Uhr finden die Artist Talks mit Marianne Drews, die „Soils in Residency“ vorstellt. Ab 20:45 Uhr zeigen wir den Film „Symphony of Soil“.

„Soils in Residency“: Die entscheidende Rolle von gesundem Boden für das Ökosystem des Planeten war bislang das Hauptaugenmerk der bisherigen Versuche, sich diesem Problem zu stellen. Da weltweit verschiedene Diskurse und Konflikte um das Eigentum am Boden zunehmen, ist es dringend erforderlich, den Boden komplexer und differenzierter zu behandeln - nicht nur als ökologisches Problem, sondern als kulturelles, soziales und politisches Problem. Soils in Residency ist eine Reaktion auf diese aktuelle Bedrohung durch „Peak Soil“ und versucht, eine neue Bodenkultur auf lokaler und globaler Ebene zu verwirklichen. Das Projekt untersucht die Transplantation von Böden als einen potenziellen Ansatz zur Wiederbelebung und Veränderung von Böden für bestimmte Produkte ohne künstliche Beeinflussung und stellt gleichzeitig die gesellschaftlichen Rahmenbedingungen in Frage, insbesondere die Zugänglichkeit und den Besitz von Ressourcen.
„Symphony of the Soil“ ist ein 103-minütiger Dokumentarfilm, der die Komplexität und das Geheimnis des Bodens erforscht. Der Film, der auf vier Kontinenten gedreht wurde und den Stimmen einiger der weltweit angesehensten Bodenwissenschaftler*innen, Landwirt*innen und Aktivist*innen Gehör verleiht, zeigt den Boden als Protagonist unserer planetarischen Geschichte. Mit einer faszinierenden Mischung aus Kunst und Wissenschaft zeigt der Film, dass der Boden ein komplexer lebender Organismus ist, der die Grundlage des Lebens auf der Erde bildet. Dennoch sind die meisten Menschen bodenblind und „behandeln Boden wie Dreck“. Durch das Wissen und die Weisheit, die in diesem Film offenbart werden, können wir diese wundersame Substanz respektieren und sogar verehren und erkennen, dass die richtige Behandlung des Bodens dabei helfen kann, einige unserer dringendsten Umweltprobleme zu lösen.

upcoming Thursday 15 August we go down and look into the earth. The evening is curated together with Social Design Students from Design Academy Eindhoven who will be showing and talking about their work. Rebecca Stumpf will show her installation ‘Worm Bot’ and Marianne Drews will present het work ‘Soils in residency’.
The main movie ‘Symphony of the Soil’ is a documentary and artistic exploration of the miraculous soil that explores the complexity and mystery of the soil, based on ancient knowledge and the latest scientific knowledge.
Doors open at 19.00, food is served at 19.30. At 19.45 the artist talk with Marianne Drews, the presentation of Soils in Residency – Materializing a new culture of soils as a reaction to the current threat of ‘Peak Soil’ will take place. The film screening will start at 20.45.

Soils in Residency: Social Design Students from Design Academy Eindhoven are exposing their work. In the shadow of ‘Peak Soil’, fertile soils are becoming more and more scarce leading to an escalating competition worldwide around this undervalued, but precious resource. The crucial role of healthy soil for the planet’s ecosystem has been, so far, the main focus of past attempts to face global soil loss. As various discourses and conflicts around the ownership of soil are rising worldwide, it is urgent to address soil in a more complex and nuanced manner – not just as an ecological problem but as a cultural, social and political issue. Soils in Residency is a reaction to this current threat of ‘Peak Soil’ and seeks to materialize a new culture of soils within local and global scales. The project explores the transplantation of soils as a potential approach for reviving and altering soils for specific produce without artificial influence, while challenging societal frameworks, namely the accessibility and ownership of resources.
Symphony of the Soil is a documentary and artistic exploration of the miraculous soil that explores the complexity and mystery of the soil, based on ancient knowledge and the latest scientific knowledge. The film has been shot on 4 continents and shares the voices of some of the world's most respected soil scientists, farmers and activists. He shows the soil as the protagonist of our planetary history. With a fascinating blend of art and science, the film shows that the soil is a complex living organism that forms the basis of life on Earth. However, most people are blind and do not appreciate this fertile and precious resource. Through the knowledge and wisdom revealed in this film, we can respect this wondrous substance and give more attention to our everyday lives.
