Objective Dialogues at Haus der Materialisierung

Haus der Statistik // KMAII

2021

Born out of a situation with impeded opportunity for encounter, Objective Dialogues is a project considering communication via old, unused objects. Revived by a new meaning, these often neglected objects spark dialogue about values, as their biographic micro-stories uncover the little secrets they bear. The donators give not only the obejcts in their possession, but also the knowledge connected to it. The new users transport the donated objects into new life-cycles and therefore expand the history onto a shared, object-based narrative – the story continues.

The main goal of the project is to bridge the gap between the realities of the neighbourhood of the residential area of KMAII (Karl-Marx-Allee, Section 2) and the looming renewed urban use of Haus der Statistik. Furthermore, the awareness for the cultural history of both communities with their respective actors, all in their own walks of life, connecting with one another.

Taking inspiration from the long-standing formar GÜTERMARKT that has been taking place regularly at ZK/U Berlin and that has by long exceeded its orignial goal of taking a critical perspective on the culture of consuming, Objective Dialogues heightens the social component of collective artisanship by building bridges between fragmented social groups and birthing unusual products of what could be considered garbage. GÜTERMARKT is the stencil adapted to the population around Haus der Statistik.
