Together for a strong Kiez!

2024 – 2027

The Strengthening Anchor Locations project aims to strengthen key socio-cultural institutions in the neighborhood in the long term and improve networking between them.

These anchor locations include, in particular, the Reformation Church (REFO), Moabit City Palace, and the ZK/U. They play an important role as cultural, social, and neighborhood meeting places in the district.

At the heart of the project is the coordination office, which serves as a central point of contact for residents, local initiatives, and organizations and institutions. Its task is to pool neighborhood needs, such as those relating to space utilization, cooperation, or new service formats, as well as existing resources, and to create synergies between existing projects and stakeholders.

At the same time, the coordination office helps to increase the visibility of the anchor locations and, together with their representatives, develops new cultural and social offerings as needed.

A central component of the project is the willingness of the participating anchor locations to open their premises more widely to residents and local actors. Against the backdrop of the planned end of the Beusselstraße QM area in 2027, the project also pursues the overarching goal of establishing long-term, sustainable, and independent structures that will continue to exist beyond the project period.

Neighbourhood at ZK/U

ZK/U makes its premises available as open spaces for cultural, social, and neighborhood activities in the district. The spaces can be used and rented by local initiatives, projects, associations, and cultural workers for a wide variety of formats – from rehearsals and workshops to discussion events, performances, and festivals.

In recent years, ZK/U's rooms have been used for the Jazzfest Moabit Community Lab and the opera project Verschollene Gesänge, which was realized with the support of the Mitte district office. In addition, workshops for the Ha[c]ken project for activation at Unionplatz and the Young African Risen Kids project took place at ZK/U. The Moabit Kitchen Choir also regularly uses the rooms on the upper floor of the ZK/U for its rehearsals.

By opening and renting out its rooms, the ZK/U supports cultural diversity in the neighborhood, promotes exchange and cooperation, and contributes to enabling low-threshold access to art, culture, and community engagement.
