Yiannis Loukos

Yiannis Loukos’ artistic practice is inextricably linked to music, and therefore to sound. His life-long relationship with the piano, both as a musical instrument and as an object, as well as his studies in engineering have led him into a deeper investigation into sound and have accompanied his path through musical composition. His works are exploring the boundaries between music and noise, within the natural sound environment. How does sound become either music or noise, depending on external conditions and space? What is the liminal zone, where noise is converted into music or music into noise? Yiannis’ work proposes an open conversation to these questions, and his installations are the result of experimenting with a wide range of objects that produce sound -from musical instruments to drones- within diverse spatial structures.
