Olha Filonchuk is a theater scenographer, costume and puppet designer, a multidisciplinary artist, and an art teacher. She created around 50 performances in theaters in Ukraine, Lithuania, and Slovakia. In 2019, she became a co-founder of Baby Theater in Kyiv, an immersive and interactive theater for children under 3 years old.
She currently lives in Germany because of the Russian war in Ukraine, here she works at the intersection of performative and visual research-based arts. Olha uses various mediums in her practice: immersive installations and interventions, art books, photography, and embroidery. She explores the themes of forced migration, national and cultural identification, human-nature relationships, and nature as a metaphor in the context of social and political issues. Moreover, she continues to explore the concept of baby theater from the same political and social perspective.
Olha has been a resident at the HELLERAU European Centre for the Arts in Dresden (2022-2023), Schloss Bröllin (2022), took part in the international art project and series of exhibitions "WE SEE UKRAINE" in Bulgaria and Croatia (2023-24), and had an exhibition at the 11m3 Projectraum in Weimar (2024).
