Nobunye Levin is a lecturer in the Film and Television division in the School of Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.  She is also currently a PhD candidate. Nobunye primarily works in experimental film. Her film Thymesis (2008) was screened at the Next Reel International Film Festival (2010) in Singapore while I am Saartjie Baartman (2009) was selected for the international competition section of the 56th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen (2010) in Germany and was also screened at the Durban International Film Festival (2010). Nobunye’s research interests are diverse. She is currently interested in notions pertaining to epistemology, “Afrofuturism” (a term originally coined by Mark Dery, 1994:180), interracial desire, race, popular culture, cyborg theory and experimental science fiction cinema.
