Nicolas Grenier

(Canada)

Nicolas Grenier (b. 1982) is a visual artist based in Montreal, Canada. His work engages with the poetics of structural change, and focuses on the connections between the social and political systems that shape our lives, and the evolution of the values and beliefs on which these systems are built. His work takes the form of architectural installations, paintings, videos, economic experiments and participative projects. 

Grenier holds an MFA from the California institute of the Arts, and attended residencies at the Banff Center (Canada), the Saas-Fee Summer Institute of Art (Berlin), Fundacion Botin (Spain) and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (USA). His work has been exhibited at the Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec (Québec), the Power Plant (Toronto), gallery Luis De Jesus Los Angeles, Taipei Contemporary Art Center (Taiwan), Galerie Bradley Ertaskiran (Montréal), the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, Gagosian Gallery (Athens), Denny Dimin Gallery (Hong Kong), the Bruges Triennial of Art and Architecture (Belgium), and Union Gallery (London). Grenier received numerous grants from the Conseil des arts du Québec and from the Canada Council for the Arts; he won the City of Montreal's Pierre-Ayot Prize in 2016, and represented Quebec for the Sobey Art Award 2019.
