Mawuenya Bubu Amudzi is a multidisciplinary artist based in Ada, Ghana. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Sculpture from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). His work delves into themes of memory, mortality, labor, transformation, and the complexities of human experience.
Amudzi’s practice is centered around the use of found objects, ranging from technological relics to ceremonial materials and personal or collective portraiture. His creative processes involve installation, assemblage, print-making, image-transfer and interactive experiences. Often, he incorporates elements such as light fixtures, water, and performative aspects to enhance the theatricality of his work, fostering interaction with the audience.
His work continues to evolve as he investigates the stories objects carry beyond their functional life, and the emotional and cultural landscapes they inhabit, offering a poignant commentary on the passage of time, memory, and our relationship with the past.
Amudzi’s work has been showcased in notable exhibitions, including Activist Choreographies of Care (2025), Spectacle Speculation (2018), the inaugural Lagos Biennial (2017), reinKarnatoX (2020), the Chale Wote Art Festival (2019), and Orderly Disorderly (2017). He is currently a recipient of the Va-Bene Scholarship and Mentorship Residency Abroad (VS&MRA) for 2025.
