Maurik Stomps

Maurik Stomps (1989) is a Rotterdam-based artist who explores complex themes by creating physical objects. Though he initially was trained as an editorial graphic designer, his practice quickly shifted into three dimensions, spanning art objects, theater sets, and when he finally found himself working as a carpenter he he started missing the in dept content-based research. After enrolling at a masters program at the Design Academy Eindhoven (2017-2019) he started combining the graphic designers’ storytelling mindset with hands-on making. Maurik approaches his objects as research tools rather than purely aesthetic pieces, using the process of making as a method to uncover and share stories embedded in daily life around him.
