Hailing from the post-industrial Great Lakes region (USA), Martha is curious about the organizational motors behind how things get built–or left behind. Her research explores connections between the spatial legacies left by our economic predecessors, the volatility and inescapability of land values under capitalism, and how urban citizens can autonomously shape their built environment outside of formal urban planning programs. With education and work experience in the humanities and urban planning, Martha is driven by a pointed, implementation-focussed pragmatism and a heady compulsion towards the theoretical and ideal. She currently heads up the Strategic Research team for a New England state’s transit agency and department of transportation and is a member of The Wurks artist collaborative.
