Luuk Smits is a visual artist and photographer based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Trained in photography at the Royal Academy of Arts (KABK, The Hague, 2013), Smits works primarily in photography, installation, and video. He is interested in working with materials that make up built environments. His working process is intuitive, and evolves along different lines of inquiry. He carries out research into material histories, as well as more playful investigations of form. Over the years he has presented his work at Perth Centre of Photography, Australia; SIGN Projectspace, the Netherlands; Jan van Eyck Academy, the Netherlands; and Art Rotterdam, the Netherlands, amongst others.
