Julie Trudel

(Canada)

Julie Trudel is an abstract painter based in Montreal, Canada. Her practice focuses on the material aspect of color, trying to reveal it in a brand new form. In the studio, she defines work protocols and imposes constraints upon herself with the hope that they will pave the way to greater innovations. She wishes to tap into the perceptual complexity generated by the painting, which draws us in by its visual impact, its quality as an object and its obvious yet puzzling production process.

Holder of an MFA at Université du Québec à Montréal (2012), Trudel has shown her work across Canada, in France and in Japan. She is the recipient of the 2013 Joseph Plaskett Award as well as several grants from the arts councils and was a finalist in the RBC Canadian Painting Competition in 2011 and 2012. She is represented by Hugues Charbonneau Gallery in Montreal (http://huguescharbonneau.com/en/).
