Helena Tan

Helena Tan is a visual artist who works primarily with sculpture, installation and writing. She is currently based between Amsterdam and Stockholm. In her work she mediates with being an Asian raised and British born human, a labor in orienting socio-cultural diaspora, which naturally informs her practice and research. Her work often reflects on contemporary culture by assembling recognisable ready-made industrial or gathered materials; mimicking, uprooting and entangling them into fictional forms and contexts. Alongside engaging in curatorial processes such as ‘Valar’, a recurring artist residency in the medieval island Gotland in Sweden, her work has previously been shown most recently in art spaces across Vienna, Amsterdam, Stockholm and Berlin. In her free time she loves rolling around the well-oiled wheels on her emotional baggage.
