Hanna is an interdisciplinary urban scholar based at University College London working at the intersection of architecture, urban planning, art, and migration studies. Her research focuses on the ways urban spaces and infrastructures can serve to exclude certain residents — and how they might better include them. In trialing ways the built environment and urban services can be reshaped to create a city that better meets everyone’s needs, she frequently uses participatory and creative methods. This means she works with local residents who may not have a formal educational background, as well as local authorities, and collaborates with artists or designers to pilot new interventions in city space. This kind of experimentation enables her and her collaborators to jointly imagine the city otherwise.
