Die Abende werden länger, der Frühling naht: höchste Zeit für ein neues OPENHAUS! Am 24.03.2022 öffnen die ZK/U Residents ab 19 Uhr die Türen ihrer Studios und gewähren Einblick in ihren künstlerischen und kuratorischen Schaffensprozess. Zu den Präsentationen, Installationen und Performances reicht das ZK/U am Lagerfeuer warme und kalte Getränke, sowie Film und Musik. In diesem OPENHAUS sammeln die Residents Spenden, um Wege zum Frieden in der Ukraine zu unterstützen.

The evenings are getting longer, spring is just around the corner: it’s about time for a new OPENHAUS! On 24.03.2022, the ZK/U residents will open the doors of their studios starting 7 pm and provide an insight into their artistic and curatorial creative process. To accompany the presentations, installations and performances, ZK/U will be serving hot and cold drinks as well as film and music around a bonfire. At this OPENHAUS, the residents will be collecting donations to support paths to peace in Ukraine.

Mit dem ZK/U Dach über Wasser von Berlin nach Kassel

Ein Jahrzehnt kollektiven Denkens und Handelns hat das Satteldach des ZK/U buchstäblich ins Wanken gebracht. Anlässlich der documenta fifteen wurde das Dach demontiert und um 180 Grad gedreht, wird das Dach zu einem Boot umgebaut — der schützende Unterstand wird zum widerstandsfähigen Schwimmkörper. In einer mehrwöchigen Reise vom angrenzenden Westhafen in Berlin fährt das Boot auf Flüssen und Kanälen (Havel, Mittellandkanal, Weser und Fulda) quer durch die mitteldeutsche Landschaft: ein schwimmendes künstlerisches Forschungsprojekt.

Die CITIZENSHIP tritt ihre Reise ohne Ausstattung an. Lebensmittel, Energie, Unterkunft und Kulturprogramm muss die Besatzung des Bootes sich auf den unterschiedlichen Etappen in Kollaboration mit örtlichen Vereinen, Häfen, Kommunen und Unternehmen einwerben. In permanenter Interaktion mit den Bürgern der durchquerenden Orte und Städte, zwischen Tradition und Wandel, zeichnet die CITIZENSHIP ein Gesellschaftsportrait unserer Zeit.

Zum OPENHAUS am 24.03.2022 wird der aktuelle Planungsstand gezeigt und das digitale Logbuch begonnen.

From Berlin to Kassel by Roof-Boat

A decade of collective brainstorming and action has literally shaken the timbers of the pitched roof at ZK/U, and charged it full of energy. Now, for documenta fifteen, ZK/U plans to raise the roof and sail off in it to Kassel. For several weeks, the upturned roof becomes a roof-boat, a CITIZENSHIP, carrying the extended crew through central Germany to Kassel, on the Havel, Weser, and Fulda rivers and the Mittelland canal.

The CITIZENSHIP begins its journey with nothing on board but its crew. Food, fuel, a place to sleep, and a cultural program are sourced from day to day, in cooperation with associations, port and city authorities, companies, artists, and interested members of the public, wherever the roof-boat stops. Dependence on local structures and support is part of the CITIZENSHIP concept, for it opens the travelers’ eyes to conditions both in small villages and larger cities such as Hannover, Wolfsburg, and Braunschweig, and sparks communication.

Not fossil fuel but people power propels the CITIZENSHIP from Berlin to Kassel. Local community groups and chance passers-by are invited to join the changing crews in paddling, cycling, towing, pushing, and whatever else it takes to keep the roof-boat moving for 650 km. CITIZENSHIP in this way stands as a symbol of our times, for the roof-boat can progress only when people cooperate!

Seit 2019 ist das ZK/U Gastgeber des Netzwerks CETKA. Unsere sogenannten Botschafter:innen bilden die Basis einer engagierten Zivilgesellschaft in der Ukraine, Belarus und Russland. Sie sind Künstler:innenkollektive, unabhängige Kulturräume, NGOs sowie Aktivist:innen - derzeit 28 Personen. Seit dem 24. Februar 2022 sind 5 von ihnen vor den Bombenangriffen auf ihr Zuhause geflohen: Aus Kyiv, Mariupol, Cherson, Charkiw. 3 wurden (vorübergehend) inhaftiert, weil sie sich an Protesten beteiligt haben, 2 müssen sich vor Gericht verantworten. 1 Organisation wurde gezwungen, sich aufzulösen, mindestens 5 Personen wurden in sichere Länder evakuiert. 

Am 3. März luden wir zu der Solidaritätsveranstaltung "Stand with Ukraine" ein. An diesem Abend erläuterten wir die Komplexität des Krieges für unser Projekt und starteten eine Spendenkampagne. Wir freuen uns, dass ein Drittel der gesammelten Spenden bereits an unsere ukrainischen Partner überwiesen wurde, die dringend auf humanitäre Hilfe angewiesen sind. Der Rest wird investiert, um bedrohte Kolleg:innen in die EU/Berlin zu bringen.

Es besteht nach wie vor die Möglichkeit, dieses Projekt mit Spenden zu unterstützen.

Since 2019 ZK/U is hosting the network CETKA. Our so-called ambassadors form the basis of an engaged civil society in regions of Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. They are artist collectives, independent cultural spaces, NGOs as well as activists - 28 people at the moment. Since 24th February 2022, 5 have fled from bombings over the places they called home: Kyiv, Mariupol, Kherson, Kharkiv. 3 were (temporarily) imprisoned for joining protests, 2 are facing court cases. 1 organisation was forced to dissolve, at least 5 people have been evacuated to safe countries. 

On March 3rd, we invited to the solidarity event “Stand with Ukraine”. This evening we outlined the complexity of war consequences for our project and started a donation campaign. We are happy to confirm that one third of the donations collected has already been transferred to our Ukrainian partners in urgent need for their humanitarian needs. The rest will be invested into bringing those in danger to the EU/ Berlin.

There is still the possibility to support this project with donations.

[pɪrspɪktɨvɨ] – Gespräche mit Kunstschaffenden aus Belarus

Im Sommer 2020 gingen von Belarus aus beeindruckend hoffnungsvolle Bilder um die Welt. Seitdem folgen erschütternde Nachrichten von Brutalität und diktatorischer Willkür. Immer wieder macht uns das sprachlos. Aber wir wollen das Schweigen nicht gewinnen lassen. Wir wollen uns austauschen. Gemeinsam mit belarusischen Künstler:innen erkunden wir, was uns verbindet und wie ein gemeinsames Gespräch aussehen kann, wenn wir uns ganz direkt als Menschen begegnen. Die Themen bringen unsere Gäst:innen selbst mit. Namen, Orte und Organisationen werden wir zum Schutz unser Gäst:innen nicht immer vollständig nennen.

[pɪrspɪktɨvɨ] – Talks with artists from Belarus

In the summer of 2020, impressively hopeful images went around the world from Belarus. Since then, shocking news of brutality and dictatorial despotism have followed. Again and again, this leaves us speechless. But we do not want to let silence win. We want to exchange ideas. Together with Belarusian artists, we will explore what connects us and what a common conversation can look like when we meet directly as human beings. Our guests will bring the topics themselves. For the protection of our guests, we will not always fully mention names, places and organisations.

Künstler:innen haben bereits lang bevor es künstliche Intelligenz überhaupt gab die ethischen Probleme "intelligenter" Maschinen diskutiert und vorhergesagt. Inmitten des heutigen Technologiebooms sind die Fragen, was "gute" oder "schlechte" KI ist, immer präsenter und zunehmend komplexer. 

Die JUNGE AKADEMIE der Akademie der Künste, Berlin, unterstützt sechs Künstlerinnen und Künstler bei der Entwicklung neuer Arbeiten zum Thema "Künstliche Intelligenz (KI) und Ethik" während eines sechsmonatigen Residenzprogramms am ZK/U in Berlin mit dem Titel "AI-Anarchies". Die Künstler:innen des Programms werden eingeladen, im Oktober 2022 an einer interdisziplinären und internationalen Herbstschule mit Künstler:innen, Wissenschaftler:innen und Mitgliedern der Akademie teilzunehmen. Die Projekte der eingeladenen Künstler:innen werden zwischen Mai und Juli 2023 in einer Abschlusspräsentation in der Akademie der Künste gezeigt. Jedes Stipendium ist mit 20.000 Euro dotiert. Das Programm wird von der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien gefördert.

Artists have discussed and predicted the ethical problems of “intelligent” machines since long before Artificial Intelligence even existed. In the midst of today’s technology boom, questions on what is “good” or “bad” AI are ever more present and increasingly complex. 

The JUNGE AKADEMIE of Akademie der Künste, Berlin, will support six artists in developing new works on the topic “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Ethics'' during a six-month residency program at ZK/U in Berlin titled “AI Anarchies.” Artists of the program will be invited to participate in an interdisciplinary and international autumn school in October 2022 with artists, scientists, and members of the Akademie. The invited artists’ projects will be shown in a final presentation between May and July 2023 at Akademie der Künste. Each fellowship is awarded with 20,000 euros. The program is funded by the Federal Commissioner for Culture and the Media.

MusART ist ein Artist-in-Residence-Programm der Emmy Noether-Nachwuchsgruppe "Jüdische moralische Schriften (Musar) der Frühen Neuzeit: 1600-1800" in Zusammenarbeit mit dem ZK/U Berlin. Gemeinsam bietet diese Ausschreibung einen zweimonatigen Aufenthalt am ZK/U Berlin zwischen Dez. 2022 und März 2023, ein Stipendium in Höhe von 3600 €, die Übernahme von Reisekosten und materielle Unterstützung.

Das Programm wird von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) gefördert.

Artists working professionally in creative fields are invited to develop a research-based project questioning contemporary codes of morality, while taking part in an interdisciplinary colloquium on the study of Jewish esoteric culture (Qabbalah and Musar) with scholars from the humanities. 

MusART is an artist-in-residence program developed by the Emmy Noether Junior Research Group “Jewish Moralistic Writings (Musar) of the Early Modern Period: 1600–1800”. Together with ZK/U Berlin, this call offers a two-month residency at ZK/U Berlin somewhen between Dec 2022 - Mar 2023, ad 3600 € grant, covers travel costs and material support.

The program is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
