Das OPENHAUS ist ein regelmäßig stattfindendes, öffentliches Format des ZK/U Berlin. Unser Residenzprogramm bietet internationalen Künstler*innen, Stadtforscher*innen, Aktivist*innen und anderen Expert*innen die Möglichkeit für mehrere Monate an Projekten in den Atelierwohnungen des ZK/U zu arbeiten. Am Ende jedes zweiten Monats bieten diese Künstler*innen beim OPENHAUS Einblicke in ihre Arbeit und laden das Berliner Publikum dazu ein, mit ihnen über ihre Projekte und Prozesse zu diskutieren.

Diese Ausgabe des OPENHAUS steht, wie so vieles andere, im Schatten der derzeitigen COVID-19 Pandemie. Geplant war die Präsentation einer Vielfalt an diversen Medien wie Skulpturen, visuellen Essays, Videoinstallationen, Photographien sowie Performances, die nun leider ausfallen wird.

Doch die Arbeiten der Künstler*innen bestehen dennoch. Sie erforschen den Körper als Schauplatz des Widerstandes in Krisenzeiten und als Schauplatz von diskursiven Praktiken durch Performance und Photographie. Gleichzeitig fokussiert sich ein kuratorisches Forschungsprojekt auf die Desynchronisation zwischen Körper und Gesellschaft, sowie ihrer Verbindung zum Schlaf und der Schlaflosigkeit.

Videoarbeiten befassen sich mit dem Thema des Generationstrauma und der Manipulation historischer Fakten in Beziehung zur portugiesischen Kolonialgeschichte. Andere Arbeiten, wie beispielsweise die Ergebnisse eines Film-Workshops, der im ZK/U stattfand und die Themen Architektur, Berlin als urbanen Raum sowie den Begriff des „Zuhauses“ untersuchten, hätten ebenfalls ihren Platz gefunden.

Wir sind zuversichtlich, dass wir uns bald wieder wie gewohnt zum OPENHAUS zusammenfinden können. Bleiben Sie gesund!

OPENHAUS, organised every other month, usually opens the doors of our residency and gives the public a chance to discover our residents’ artistic projects, discuss and exchange directly with them.

This edition of the OPENHAUS, as anything these days, is overshadowed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The presentation, planned as a variety of media such as sculptures, visual essays, video installations, photography and performances, will sadly not commence.

The works of the artists still deserve to be displayed. They explore the body as a site of resistance in crisis or of discursive practices through performance and photography. At the same time, a curatorial research project focuses on the desynchronization between body and society and its association with the politics of sleep and sleeplessness. 

Video works broach the subjects of generational trauma and manipulation of historical facts in relation to the Portuguese colonial past. Other works, as well as the results of a film workshop that took place in ZK/U, having architecture as their focal point, examine Berlin as an urban space and the notion of ‘home’.  

We are looking forward to the next OPENHAUS, that will surely take place again in our house soon. Until then, we wish you good health.

The residency program offered by ZK/U - Center for Art and Urbanistics in Berlin is open to artists, scholars, practitioners and professionals of various fields whose practice or approach relates to the exploration and questioning of urban reality. ZK/U welcomes residency applications with proposals framed as contemporary artistic positions that are conceptual, interventionist and contextual, and as research and activism in the fields of urbanism, geography, anthropology, architecture and the humanities.

With collaborative practices and peer-to-peer learning at its core, the residency is about exchanging with and learning from other artists and practitioners. It is a space for urban experimentation where fellows connect through common themes and interests. ZK/U offers a “living and working” space within a former train station building, located in a dynamic public park. Hosting regular public events catering to a diverse audience, ZK/U is a lively cultural venue, and residents are encouraged to involve themselves with ZK/U’s programme and to propose their own formats.

The Goethe-Institut Nigeria, in cooperation with 16/16 residency in Lagos and the Berlin art institutions, ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics, SAVVY Contemporary and Galerie Wedding, is offering residencies for artists / curators from Lagos and Berlin. The call is aimed at artists and curators living and working in Lagos or Berlin. Both selected residents will meet, exchange and present their findings to the Berlin audience together. 

Residency for Lagosians in Berlin (1.09.-30.11.2020):
A residence program for an artist / curator from Lagos takes place in Berlin. Through the collaboration of ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics, SAVVY Contemporary and Galerie Wedding this residence offers, above living and working in Berlin, insights into the work of three important Berliner cultural institutions. The resident has diverse opportunities for consultation and networking and can present their work to the public on various occasions. 

Residency for Berliners in Lagos (16.09.-31.10.2020) :
A residence program for an artist / curator from Berlin takes place in Lagos. Through the cooperation of Goethe-Institut Nigeria and 16/16, this residence offers not only the possibility of working in Lagos, but also insight into the work of two important cultural institutions in Lagos, a variety of consultation and contact opportunities as well as the possibility of a final presentation at 16/16 and a workshop in and around the Lagos Island community. 

On the topic of the 2020 residency exchange Lagos/Berlin:
This year´s applications are encouraged to be inspired by topics on and around archives, their limitations, power structures and contemporary manifestations. The focus lies on living archives through which practices, skills and knowledge can be shared for the common good. For further in-depth description, kindly see full concept below.

There is a new open call from Mondriaan Fond for Dutch artists wanting to come to ZK/U for a fully funded residency. The residency would take place either between January 1st, 2021 and June 30th, 20201 or between July 1st, 2021 and December 30th, 2021.

Der Denk- und Produktionsort Libken öffnet ab Mai 2020 wieder seine Türen und lädt Gruppen und Einzelpersonen zu Arbeitsaufenthalten und Residenzen in die Uckermark ein. Wie ein Denkmal der Ost-Moderne ragt der viergeschossige Plattenbau 100 km nordöstlich von Berlin in die weitläufige Hügellandschaft. Vor Ort stehen verschiedene Wohn- und Arbeitsräume für kurze und längere Aufenthalte zur Verfügung, außerdem ist es möglich Workshops, Tagungen und Veranstaltungen dort zu organisieren.  Libken wird kollektiv entwickelt mit dem Ziel künstlerische, kulturelle und aktivistische Arbeit zu fördern und versteht sich als Plattform für all jene die einen konzentrierten Arbeitsort, Austausch und Nähe zur Natur suchen.

The Denk- und Produktionsort Libken, will once again open its doors to invite groups and individuals to live and work in the Uckermark. A monument to Eastern Modernism, the four-storey prefabricated block rises up into the extensive hilly landscape 100 km northeast of Berlin. Various living and working rooms are available on site for short and long term stays. It is also possible to organize workshops, conferences and events.

Libken is a collectively developed project, supporting artistic, cultural, and political projects. It is a platform for those who are looking for a concentrated place to work, exchange with others, and be in touch with nature.
