Während der Klimawandel ungreifbar zu sein scheint, nirgendwo und überall zur gleichen Zeit, ist er mit allem und jedem verstrickt. Vor diesem Hintergrund initiiert die Jubiläumsinitiative MORE WORLD der

Berliner Gazette einen kritischen Dialog. Ziel ist es, die Ursachen des Klimawandels durch Verflechtungen von Ökosystemen mit kommunalen, staatlichen und globalen Strukturen besser zu verstehen und zu erfassen – und letztlich Möglichkeiten zu erforschen, den Klimawandel aus solchen Zusammenhängen heraus anzugehen: Wenn nicht nur die Verwüstungen des Klimawandels aus einem planetarischen Geflecht von Interdependenzen entstehen, sondern potenziell auch die kollektiven Kapazitäten, der globalen Erwärmung gemeinsam entgegenzuwirken, wie können wir dann von der passiven Verstrickung zur aktiven Verstrickung übergehen? Das heißt, wie können wir aus dem Alles-und-jeder-ist-verbunden-Zustand, der dazu neigt, uns zu lähmen, zu einem Zustand der Verbundenheit übergehen, der neue Formen der grenzüberschreitenden Zusammenarbeit ermöglicht? Und wie können wir kooperative Praktiken für das Zusammenspiel von kommunalen, staatlichen und globalen Ansätzen zur Anpassung an den Klimawandel entwickeln? Um diesen Fragen nachzugehen, organisiert die Berliner Gazette die 20. Ausgabe ihrer Jahrestagung: ein dreitägiges Programm mit Workshops, Performances und öffentlichen Vorträgen, das zwischen dem 10. und 12.10.2019 im ZK/U stattfinden wird.

MORE WORLD // Berliner Gazette’s 20th Anniversary Conference

Public Talks, Performances and Gala

While climate change seems to be intangible, nowhere and everywhere at the same time, it is entangled with everything and everyone. Against this backdrop, the Berliner Gazette’s 20th anniversary initiative MORE WORLD stimulates a critical dialogue. The goal is to better understand and grasp the causes of climate change through entanglements of ecosystems with communal, state and global structures – and ultimately to explore possibilities to tackle climate change from within such interconnections: If not only the devastations of climate change arise from a planetary web of interdependencies, but potentially also capacities to collectively counter global warming, then how can we progress from passive entanglement to active entanglement? Meaning, how can we progress from the everything-and-everyone-is-connected-condition as one which tends to paralyze us to a state of interconnectedness that enables new forms of cross-border cooperation? And how can we cultivate cooperative practices for the interplay between communal, state and global approaches adapting to climate change? To explore this, the Berliner Gazette will organize the 20th edition of its annual conference: a three-day program with workshops, performances and public talks.

Die Künstlerin und Forscherin Kat Austen hat bei einem Aufenthalt am Nordpol Filmbilder aufgenommen, Interviews durchgeführt und Tonaufnahmen mit eigens dafür gebauten Instrumenten gemacht. Das Ergebnis ist The Matter of the Soul: ein video- und sonoskulpturales Werk, das die menschliche Empathie für die Auflösungsprozesse in der Arktis untersucht. Austen wird mit diesen Instrumenten einen Satz aus "The Matter of the Soul | Symphony" aufführen.

Der Choreograph, Tänzer und weltbekannte Restekünstler Pepe Dayaw von den Philippinen kreiert wunderbare Mahlzeiten aus Lebensmittelresten. Er wird einen Sari-Sari-Teller kreieren und gleichzeitig ein Ritual durchführen.

Der Eintritt ist wie gewohnt frei. Gala und Performance beginnen um 18:30 Uhr, Essen ab 19:30 Uhr, Video und Symphonie ab 20:30 Uhr. Eine Mahlzeit kostet 10 €. Bitte reservieren Sie Ihr Essen bis zum Vorabend verbindlich, indem Sie eine E-Mail an speisekino(at)zku-berlin.org senden.

06.10. // FOOD AND FOOTAGE - SPECIAL EDITION IN OCTOBER

In collaboration with Berliner Gazette and Nowhere Kitchen

During a residency in the Arctic, artist and researcher Kat Austen conducted interviews, collected video images and audio recordings, using specially developed instruments. The outcome of this endeavor is The Matter of the Soul – a musical and sono-sculptural work exploring human empathy with the process of dispersal in the Arctic. Austen will perform one movement of The Matter of the Soul | Symphony using these instruments.

The choreographer, dancer and world-renowned leftover artist Pepe Dayaw  from the Philippines tackles this problem: he creates wonderful meals with the stuff that sits at the back of your fridge. For SPEISEKINO he will create a sari-sari plate while simultaneously holding a ritual. 

Entrance to the film is free as usual. Performance starts at 6:30 p.m., food from 7.30 p.m., film and symphony from 8.30 p.m. A meal costs €10. Please reserve your plate until the evening before by sending an email to speisekino(at)zku-berlin.org.

Red Leather ist ein Spiel von ZK/U Residentin Anna Novakov, das aus den Geräuschen und Gerüchen ihrer Kindheit in Belgrad in den 1960er Jahren arrangiert wurde. In einem dunklen Raum erfahren Besucher*innen die Mischung der Gerüchen, aufgeschichtet über einen vorher aufgenommen Monolog, der mit Audio-Aufnahmen von Ljubica Marics (1909-2003) Kantatenlied des Raumes für gemischten Chor und Orchester (1956) durchsetzt ist.

Red Leather is a play by ZK/U Resident Anna Novakov, composed of the sounds and smells of her childhood in 1960s Belgrade. In a darkened room audience members experience the mixing of scents layered upon a pre-recorded monologue that is interspersed with audio clips from Ljubica Maric’s (1909-2003) Cantata Song of Space for Mixed Choir and Orchestra (1956).

Für diese Edition des OPENHAUS laden durchgehende Live-Audio- und Video-Performances das Publikum zum Verweilen in der Erfahrung der Alleinsamkeit und Fragen der Bedeutungsproduktion und Transformation ein. Zukünftige Landschaften und neue Formen der nicht-menschlichen Arbeit werden von Installationen und Performances hinterfragt, während andere Kunstwerke sich auf den Körper konzentrieren. Einige Beiträge untersuchen die Konzeption eines starken Körpers im persönlichen und öffentlichen Raum, während andere Workshops und Aktionen den historisierten Körper bloßlegen, wovon Impressionen während der Veranstaltung geteilt werden. Räumlichkeit wird in ihren unterschiedlichen Maßen poetisch erkundet - von kurzen Dokumentarfilmen, die die Dynamik der zeitgenössischen urbanen Transformationen in Indonesien betrachten, fotografischen Notizen aus Istanbul, einer Suche nach dem Undeutlichen in Moabit, bis zu einer Ode an der Residency-Küche.

For this edition of the OPENHAUS, ongoing live sound and video performances invite the public to dwell in the experience of solitude and questions of meaning production and transformation. Future landscapes and new forms of non-human labor are questioned through installations and performances, while other artworks focus on the body. Some contributions examine the conception of a strong body in personal and public space, while other workshops and actions unveil the historicized body, of which impressions will be shared during the event. Space in its different scales is explored poetically - from short documentaries looking at the dynamics of contemporary urban transformations in Indonesia, photographic notes of Istanbul, a search for the indistinct in Moabit, to an ode to the residency kitchen.

In der Werkstatt Haus der Statistik 

'Open Form neu denken' ist eine Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem ZK/U Berlin und MOM – Museum der Wohnsiedlungen in Lublin – anlässlich des 100-jährigen Bestehens der Polnischen Republik.

Die Ergebnisse des Projekts werden vom 25. bis zum 27. Oktober 2019 im Pavillon der Werkstatt Haus der Statistik präsentiert.

Der Pavillon wird dabei zu einem multimodularen Labor, welches die eigene Funktion von Tag zu Tag zwischen Kino, Konferenzraum, Radiostation und Spielecke wechselt. Den Bewohner*innen der Karl-Marx-Allee sowie Expert*innen aus den Bereichen Architekturgeschichte, Soziologie, IT und Sound Engineering, wird so eine gemeinsame Plattform zum Austausch geboten.

Gefördert durch die Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung.

“Rethink Open Form”

At the Werkstatt Haus der Statistik

“Rethink Open Form” is a collaboration between ZK/U Berlin and MOM - Museum of Housing Estates Lublin - on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Polish Republic.

The results of the project will be presented in the pavilion Werkstatt Haus der Statistik from the 25th until the 27th of October 2019. The pavilion will become a multimodular laboratory that changes its function from day to day between cinema, conference room, radio station and playing field. The residents of the Karl-Marx-Allee as well as experts from the fields of architectural history, sociology, IT and sound engineering will hereby be offered a common platform for exchange.
