Das Residenzprogramm des ZK/U – Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik ist vom 1. April bis zum 20. Mai 2018 offen für Bewerbungen von internationalen Künstler*innen, Forscher*innen, und Kulturschaffenden, die sich mit den Themen Stadt und Gesellschaft befassen. Willkommen sind Projektvorhaben, die aus zeitgenössischen künstlerischen oder wissenschaftlichen Positionen bestehen und sich in einer konzeptuellen, interventionistischen, kontext-spezifischen oder gemeinschaftlichen Praxis verorten.
Das ZK/U bietet den Bewerber*innen eine breite Plattform des Austauschs mit anderen künstlerischen und wissenschaftlichen Vorhaben, die von transdisziplinärer theoretischer und praxisorientierter Kritik geprägt sind. Die am ZK/U verorteten Projekte stammen aus den Bereichen der Stadtforschung, Geografie, Anthropologie, Urbanistik,Architektur, Geisteswissenschaften sowie der bildenden und performativen Künste. Im Rahmen der aktuellen Ausschreibung sind besonders relevant Initiativen, die sich mit Begegnungsräumen zwischen Bürger*innen mit verschiedenen Hintergründen auseinandersetzen; Formate, die städtische Infrastruktur hinterfragen und öffentlichen Raum für das Gemeingut einfordern; Praxen, die globale Komplexitäten im lokalen Kontext greifbar machen sowie Projekte, die ein Zugehörigkeitsgefühl für alle innerhalb der postmigrantischen Gesellschaft schaffen.
Neben der Teilnahme an dem umfangreichen öffentlichen Programm des ZK/U, bietet die Residenz speziell für die Resident*innen verschiedene Formate der Interaktion und Präsentation an. Dazu gehören beispielsweise ein wöchentliches Abendessen, bei dem Resident*innen, Mitarbeiter*innen des ZK/U und eingeladene Gäste aus dem ZK/U-Netzwerk gemeinsam kochen, essen und sich gegenseitig ihre künstlerischen Arbeiten vorstellen, oder auch monatliche Studiobesuche von internationalen Kurator*innen und Künstler*innen.
Einmal im Monat haben die Teilnehmer*innen des Residenzprogramms die Gelegenheit, im Rahmen des OPENHAUS öffentlich ihre aktuellen Arbeiten zu präsentieren und Einblicke in ihre aktuellen Schaffensprozesse zu geben. Darüber hinaus sind die Resident*innen eingeladen, eigene Formate oder Veranstaltungen wie Workshops, Filmvorführung, Diskussionen oder Lesegruppen zu konzipieren und selbstständig im ZK/U umzusetzen.
Die Kosten der Residenz für Einzelpersonen oder Kollektive liegen, abhängig von der Art der Atelierwohnung und der Dauer des Aufenthaltes (3-8 Monate), zwischen 550 € und 850 € pro Monat. Der Preis beinhaltet die Betriebskosten, die Nutzung der Gemeinschaftsflächen und die Teilnahme am Residenzprogramm.

ZK/U - Center for Art and Urbanistic’s residency programme is open for applications from artists, scholars and practitioners that concern themselves with the phenomenon of ‘the city’ between April 1st and May 20th of 2018. Proposals for a residency at ZK/U Berlin can range of contemporary artistic positions that are conceptual, interventionist and contextual. Work at ZK/U is informed by theoretical and practice-based critiques within the fields of urban research, geography, anthropology, urbanism, architecture and the humanities. Residents are encouraged to involve themselves with ZK/U’s programme and to propose their own formats.
In the frame of this Open Call, ZK/U is particularly interested in initiatives that create spaces for encounter and exchange between citizens from diverse backgrounds; formats that question and reclaim urban infrastructure and public space for the commons; practices that make global complexities graspable in a local context; and projects that imagine forms of local belonging within post-migration societies.
In the context of its research and residency programme, ZK/U offers a production space where artists, researchers and practitioners can meet and work on individual or collaborative projects and ideas. The programme consists of an active-collaborative format for mutual exchange, weekly work-in-progress presentations, a monthly public event with open studios, studio visits by professionals from ZK/U’s network, and an open platform for residents’ own projects. In the residency space there are furnished studio-apartments (half of which have private bathrooms) and communal facilities like a large kitchen, a terrace, a library-in-progress and a surrounding public park.
For individual fellows or groups, depending on the type of studio-apartment and the length of stay (3-8 months), the residency costs are between €550 and €850 per month. The price covers all utility costs, space usage and participation in the residency programming.

Mit der anstehenden Fußballweltmeisterschaft in Russland 2018 etabliert das ZK/U das ‘Public Viewing’-Format 'Fussballaballa'. Ergänzend zu Großleinwand werden die Spiele auf diversen 4:3 Fernsehern übertragen und sorgen für ein buchstäbliches Zusammenrücken.
Fussballaballa zeigt die Spiele in diversen Sprachen und nutzt die Zeit vor, nach und während der Übertragungen für ein Bildungs- und Unterhaltungsprogramm, das Licht in das Dickicht Russlands bringen möchte: Wie sehen die RussInnenen ihr eigenes Land? Wie haben sich die einzelnen Städte im Zuge der Fuballweltmeisterschaft verändert? Wo leben eigentlich Tataren und Kosaken und wie prägen sie die unterschiedlichen Regionen? Wie sehen KünstlerInnen, SpätaussiedlerInnen und Berliner-RussInnen ihr Land aus der Ferne? Im April 2018 reiste ein Filmteam des ZK/U in die Austragungsorte Kazan, Wolgograd und Rostov, um filmisch die Vielfalt Russlands abseits der Hauptstädte einzufangen.
Die entstandenen Kurzfilme werden während der WM in einer Dauerausstellung und vor den Spielen gezeigt. Die Protagonisten der Filme - KünstlerInnen, StadtplanerInnen und aktive BürgerInnen - sind eingeladen, über Regionen und Aktivitäten im ZK/U zu berichten. Neben Football auch Foodball: für Essen ist gesorgt. Es gibt vielfältige russische Spezialitäten aus den entlegensten Winkeln des Landes.

ZK/U establishes due to the upcoming Fifa World Cup 2018 in Russia a public viewing format called "Fussballaballa". The matches will be broadcast live on regular big screens and on several smaller 4"3 TVs.
Fussballaballa will be showing the games in various languages and will use the time before, after and during the transmissions for our educational and entertainment program that will shed light onto the situation in Russia. Our aim is to look beyond the headlines made by Putin, Oligarchs and new Cold War narratives, unveiling a socially diverse country with contradictions, surprises and an ethnically diverse civil society. How do Russians see their own country? What is the significance of technology, politics and the republics of the former Soviet Union for the present and future of the country? How do artists, late repatriates and Berlin-Russians see their country from afar?
In April 2018, a film team from ZK/U visited Kazan, Wolgograd and Rostov on Don and let the people speak for themselves: With artists, musicians, human rights activists, urban planners of all generations, we talked about their identity, their future outlooks and their current life. In addition to talks, film programs, exhibitions with Russian artists and, of course, game broadcasts, there are culinary offerings that show the diversity of Russia from the Persian influences of the South to Far-Asian specialties.

Vom 9. Juni bis 9. September 2018 ist das ZK/U – Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik ein Ausstellungsort der 10. Berlin Biennale für Zeitgenössische Kunst.
Die 10. Berlin Biennale für zeitgenössische Kunst findet vom 9. Juni bis 9. September 2018 unter dem Titel We don‘t need another hero in vier permanenten Ausstellungsorten statt: Akademie der Künste am Hanseatenweg, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Volksbühne Pavillon und ZK/U – Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik. Das HAU Hebbel Am Ufer ist Schauplatz für zwei künstlerische Interventionen zur 10. Berlin Biennale.
Die Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem ZK/U und der 10. Berlin Biennale ist geprägt von der Vielfältigkeit des ZK/U: so werden drei KünstlerInnen in der ZK/U Residenz künstlerische Arbeiten für die Ausstellung der Berlin Biennale produzieren und die Residenz selbst wird im Erdgeschoss (Atelierwohnungen 1 - 6) in eine Ausstellungsfläche umgewandelt. Zudem wird ein Format des ZK/U kuratiert. Auch der Veranstaltungskeller wird zum Ort künstlerischer Produktion werden.

From June 9 to September 9 2018 the ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics is a venue of the 10. Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art.
The 10th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art titled We don’t need another hero takes place from June 9 to September 9, 2018 at four permanent exhibition venues: Akademie der Künste at Hanseatenweg, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Volksbühne Pavilion, and ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics. HAU Hebbel Am Ufer serves as a site for two performances over the course of the 10th Berlin Biennale.
The cooperation between the ZK / U and the 10th Berlin Biennale is characterized by the diversity of the ZK/U: three artists will produce artistic works in the ZK/U Residency for the exhibition of the Berlin Biennale and the ground floor of the residency itself (Studio apartments 1 - 6) will be converted into an exhibition space. In addition, one of the "Formats" of the ZK/U will be curated by the BB10. The cellar of the ZK/U will also become the site of artistic production.

Vom 7. bis 11. Mai findet das City Tool Box Festival in Aveiro, Portugal statt.
Das Festival wird sich mit etablierten sowie neueren Methoden der City Tool Box Plattform auseinandersetzen und dies am Freitag, den 11. Mai in einer Konferenz finalisieren.
In Vorträgen, Präsentationen und Diskussionen soll auf der Konferenz kritisch reflektiert werden, inwiefern sich Langzeiteinflüsse urbaner Handlungen und Interventionen ausgehend von BürgerInnen auf die Politikgestaltung auswirken: Ändern Initiativen die urbane Landschaft direkt, so dass sie auf Augenhöhe mit der gewöhnlichen Stadtplanung konkurrieren können? Oder kreieren sie vielmehr symbolische Konfliktfelder, welche die Entscheidungsansichten von EntscheidungsträgerInnen und PolitikerInnen ändern und beeinflussen?
Die Konferenz wird begleitet von Gesprächsrunden und Diskussionen mit Dr. Levente Polyak (Stadtplaner, Wissenschaftler, Gemeinschaftsvertreter, Politischer Berater und Co-Autor von 'Funding the Cooperative City: Community Finance and the Economy of Civic Spaces'), Dr. Martin Schlüter (Programmkoordinator bei 'Actors of Urban Change' / MitOst e.V., Berlin), Elena Archipovaite (Stadtentwicklungsaktivistin aus Vilnius), das City Tool Box Konsortium...und viele weitere!

From 7.-11. May the City Tool Box festival takes place in Aveiro, Portugal.
The festival will be looking at established and new methods for the City Tool Box platform and closes with a conference on Friday 11th. In impulse lectures, pecha-kucha presentations and discussions, the conference will critically examine the long term impact of citizen driven urban practice in regards to policy making: Are initiatives directly changing the urban landscapes in scale and visibility, that can compete with the everyday city planning? Or do these initiatives rather create symbolic conflict-fields, that influence and change the attitudes of decision makers and political representatives?
The conference will feature talks and discussions by Dr. Levente Polyak (urban planner, researcher, community advocate, policy adviser and co-author of Funding the Cooperative City: Community Finance and the Economy of Civic Spaces), Dr. Martin Schlüter (Program Coordinator Actors of Urban Change / MitOst e.V., Berlin), Elena Archipovaite (Urban Development Practitioner from Vilnius), The City Tool Box consortium...and many more!
