Lange Abende, frische Ideen und neue Perspektiven warten auf euch: in den Ateliers, auf Spaziergängen, bei Performances oder Gesprächen. Eine ganz besondere Ausgabe von Food & Footage steht vor der Tür: Zum vierten Mal in Folge kehrt Berlin x Chengdu als beliebtes Sommer-Event zurück, das die kreativen Energien, kulturellen Echos und die gemeinschaftliche Wärme beider Städte feiert. Die diesjährige kuratierte Kurzfilmreihe verbindet den Geist Berlins mit der würzigen Seele von Chengdu und richtet den Fokus auf queere Erzählungen, multigenerationale soziale Dynamiken, imaginierte Identitäten und flüchtige Stadterlebnisse. Die vier ausgewählten Filme präsentieren einen lebendigen Querschnitt des unabhängigen Kinos Chengdus und eröffnen Raum für diasporische Reflexion und transkulturellen Austausch. Den Abend begleiten Teeverkostung, Street Food und Musik – eine Einladung, zusammenzukommen, zu essen, zu schauen und ins Gespräch zu kommen.

Die Filmvorführung ist kostenfrei, Spenden an CiLENS e.V. sind willkommen. Es gibt keinen Ticketverkauf. Fusion Maocai Rice Burger vom Duo Nur für Essen (怒妇儿) sowie Douhua von TANTAN DOUHUA (摊摊豆花) können vor Ort nach dem Prinzip first come, first serve erworben werden.

A very special edition of Food & Footage is just around the corner: for the fourth year in a row, Berlin x Chengdu returns as a beloved summer gathering that celebrates the creative energies, cultural echoes, and community warmth of two cities. Bridging the spirit of Berlin and the spicy soul of Chengdu, this year’s curated short film program puts a spotlight on queer narratives, multigenerational social dynamics, imagined identities, and fleeting urban encounters. The four selected films present a vibrant cross-section of Chengdu’s independent cinema, opening up space for diasporic reflection and transcultural dialogue. The evening is rounded out with tea tasting, street food, and music; an invitation to gather, eat, watch, and connect.

The screening is free of charge; donations to CiLENS e.V. are welcome. No tickets or food pre-sale. Fusion Maocai Rice Burger by Nur für Essen (怒妇儿) and Douhua by TANTAN DOUHUA (摊摊豆花) will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

Einem Protokoll folgend entfaltet sich der Weg: Detour Bau führt in einer Walking-Tour durch Erinnerungen, Geister und Architektur.
Die aktuellen ZK/U Residents Franca & Leonardo laden zu einer Reise durch Raum und Zeit ein, verwurzelt in ihren künstlerischen Praktiken – vom Schreiben bis zur Bewegung. Die Wahrnehmung der Landschaft wird dabei performativ erweitert. Diese erste öffentliche Präsentation ist das Ergebnis ihres Forschungsprojekts, entwickelt während ihrer Residency am ZK/U und unterstützt von BASE Milano.

Unfolding the path through a protocol, Detour Bau guides you on a walking tour through memories, ghosts, and architecture.
Current ZK/U residents Franca & Leonardo invite the public to embark on a journey through space and time, rooted in their artistic practices – from writing to movement. The perception of landscape is expanded in a performative way. This first public presentation is the outcome of their research project, developed during their residency at ZK/U and supported by BASE Milano.

Bei Food & Footage treffen Film und Küche aufeinander: bewegte Bilder verbinden sich mit einem abgestimmten Menü, das gesellschaftliche, kulturelle und politische Themen auf den Tisch bringt.

Diesmal zeigen wir einen besonderen Dokumentarfilm, gefolgt von einem Gespräch mit der Regisseurin aus China (aktuell Artist-in-Residence am ZK/U) sowie drei Protagonist:innen: einem 8-jährigen Mädchen, einem 17-jährigen Jungen und ihrer Mutter.
Der Film begleitet zwei Jungen über acht Jahre hinweg – von Kaisa Umzug von Großbritannien nach Peking bis zu seiner Freundschaft mit Zihao aus ländlichem Sichuan. Ein sensibles Porträt über Kindheit, Identität und Differenz, eingebettet in einen Abend mit gemeinsamem Essen und Austausch.

At Food & Footage, cinema meets cuisine: films are paired with a curated menu that brings social, cultural, and political topics to the table.
This edition features a documentary screening followed by a talk with the director from China (currently Artist-in-Residence at ZK/U) and three protagonists: an 8-year-old girl, a 17-year-old boy, and their mother.
The film follows two boys over eight years — from Kai’s move from the UK to Beijing to his friendship with Zihao from rural Sichuan. A tender portrait of childhood, identity, and difference, framed by an evening of shared food and conversation.

Interspecifics präsentieren vier gemeinsam verfasste Kurzgeschichten aus einem Workshop für spekulatives Schreiben. Die Performance verbindet Klang, Visuals und KI-gestütztes Storytelling zu einem immersiven Erlebnis. Sie lädt das Publikum ein, alternative Perspektiven auf Mensch–Pflanze-Beziehungen zu entdecken.

Ein poetisches Ritual verbindet Menschen und Pflanzen durch Klang, Poesie und Umweltdaten. Die Performance eröffnet einen Raum des Zuhörens jenseits von Sprache. Resonanz und Präsenz werden in einem gemeinsamen Erlebnis spürbar.

Gravierte Stahl-Drucke und eine klangliche Installation erforschen Gewächshaus-Infrastrukturen, die transportierte Pflanzenarten am Leben erhalten. Die Arbeit untersucht, wie kontrollierte Umweltbedingungen Anpassung, Überleben und Symbiosen erzeugen, und eröffnet zugleich einen poetischen Raum für Reflexion über Pflege, Kontrolle und das Zusammenspiel von Natur und Technik.

Handheld Fragments ist eine performative Auseinandersetzung mit der Spezies Orchidaceae. Oft als empfindlich, kompliziert und exotisch stigmatisiert, zeigt sie zugleich Meisterschaft in Anpassung, Täuschung und radikaler Überlebenskunst. Zwischen botanischem Wissen, biografischen Fragmenten und poetischer Überlagerung thematisiert Minh Duc Pham queeres und migrantisches Aufwachsen, Fürsorge und Trennung. Die Lecture Performance untersucht, wie Spuren vergangener Pflege, verblasste Beziehungen und das stille Aushalten des Dazwischen Erinnerungsräume erzeugen.

Engraved steel prints and a sonic installation explore greenhouse infrastructures sustaining transported plant species. Handheld Fragments is a performative engagement with the Orchidaceae species. Often stigmatized as delicate, complicated, and exotic, it also demonstrates mastery in adaptation, deception, and radical survival. Between botanical knowledge, biographical fragments, and poetic layering, Minh Duc Pham explores queer and migrant upbringing, care, and separation. The lecture performance examines how traces of past care, faded relationships, and quietly enduring the in-between create spaces of memory.
