Bei CETKA ist seit dem letzten Newsletter einiges passiert:

Nach 18 Monaten vor dem Bildschirm fand vom 7.–10. November in Eriwan, Armenien, endlich wieder ein gemeinsames Treffen statt. Es war ein ungewohntes aber herrliches Gefühl, wieder zusammen zu kommen und intensiv die gemeinsamen Projektziele zu setzen, an der Projekt-Charta zu schleifen und die inhaltlichen Schwerpunkte für die nächsten Monate zu bilden. Und wir hatten viel zu diskutieren, denn... 

Wir haben unser Netzwerk (cetka - rus. für ‘Netz’) auf insgesamt 27 Initiativen aus den Regionen in Belarus, Russland und Ukraine erweitert! Die zwei Generationen unserer Ambassadors arbeiten von nun an gemeinsam an kurzen Videoportraits und drei mittellangen thematischen Filmen.

A lot has also happened at CETKA since the last Newsletter:

After 18 months in front of various screens, a physical meeting was finally able to happen between 7-10 November in Yerevan, Armenia. What an unusual but wonderful feeling it was to come together again and intensively set the common project goals, to grind on the project Charta and to form the content priorities for the next months. And we had a lot to discuss, because...

We have expanded our network (cetka - rus. for ‘network’) to a total of 27 initiatives from the regions in Belarus, Russia and Ukraine! The two generations of our Ambassadors are now working together on short video portraits and three medium-length thematic films.

The Cultural Cooperation project Some Call Us Balkans (SCUB), is a transdisciplinary, art-based inquiry and community that explores and mobilizes moments of collective production of knowledge, imagination, research, and multivocal representations that challenge myths and misconceptions regarding the “Balkans” as the “European Other”.

Based on the artistic research built throughout the project, SCUBcommunity is looking for 8 emerging artist-travelers.

     - The selected 8 artist-travelers will form together a collective and will work jointly and transdisciplinary, and will be required to commit in terms of time and presence.

     - Emerging transdisciplinary artist-travelers participating in our Open Call are highly motivated in supporting local realities, organizations and social claims through their skills and competencies and to work together.

     - Each partner organisation will be selecting one artist from their respective country to become part of the project. The selection of the 8 finalists will be a collective decision of all SCUB partners.

In der letzten Woche im Januar 2022 wird es wieder ein OPENHAUS in Zusammenarbeit mit Vorspiel / CTM geben. Das OPENHAUS ist ein regelmäßig stattfindendes, öffentliches Format des ZK/U Berlin. Unser Residenzprogramm bietet internationalen Künstler:innen, Stadtforscher:innen, Aktivist:innen und anderen Expert:innen die Möglichkeit für mehrere Monate an Projekten in den Atelierwohnungen des ZK/U zu arbeiten. Die Residents laden das Publikum ist dazu ein, mit ihnen über ihre Projekte und Prozesse zu diskutieren.

In the last week of January 2022, another edition of OPENHAUS in collaboration with Vorspiel / CTM will take place. The OPENHAUS is a recurring format in which the doors of the ZK/U residency open to the public to discover the residents’ projects discuss and exchange directly with them.

Das Altenheim Gerlachstraße, Gerlachstraße 18-21, war ein jüdisches Altenheim. Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs wurde das Heim von den Nazis beschlagnahmt und als Sammelstelle für ältere Juden genutzt, die in Konzentrationslager deportiert wurden. In den späten 1960er Jahren wurden jene Gebäude auf dem Gelände, die nicht durch Bomben zerstört worden waren, abgerissen, um Platz für das Haus der Statistik der DDR zu schaffen. Das Altenheim wurde bereits Jahre vor dem Abriss unter Denkmalschutz gestellt. Obwohl einige Anstrengungen unternommen wurden, um an die NS-Deportationsstätten in Berlin zu erinnern, stellt das Museum Mitte fest, dass das Jüdische Altenheim in der Gerlachstraße nach wie vor nicht anerkannt, stattdessen in Vergessenheit geraten ist.

Damit die ehemaligen Bewohner*innen nicht dasselbe Schicksal ereilt, werden ihre Namen verlesen. Aus dieser Lesung entsteht eine Klanginstallation, die am Ende des Monats eröffnet wird.

The Gerlachstraße Jüdisches Altenheim, located at Gerlachstraße 18-21, was a Jewish home for the elderly. During WWII, the home was seized and used as a Nazi collection point for elderly Jews being transported to concentration camps. In the late 1960s, structures on the site that were not destroyed by Allied bombing were razed to make way for the DDR's Haus der Statistik. The Altenheim had been requested to be listed under historic preservation years before the demolition. Though some efforts have been made to memorialize Berlin’s Nazi deportation sites, The Mitte Museum notes the Gerlachstraße Jüdisches Altenheim remains unrecognized.

To spare the previous inhabitants of the same destiny, their names will be read out loud. This reading will be transformed into a sound installation, which will be opened at the end of the month.
