SPEISEKINO // Walking the streets of Moscow (1964)

by Georgiy Daneliya

Menu: Okroshka (Russian cold soup), Mushroom Julienne (Berlin-style) and olivier salad

Volodya, a young Siberian writer, is on his way to meet a famous author when he encounters and befriends Kolya in the Moscow metro. Together they help their old friend Sasha to solve the troubles in his love life before they set off to meet Kolya’s love interest, Alyona. This lyrical black-and-white comedy directed by Georgiy Daneliya portrays a futuristic, harmonized society that by now has been caught up by the reality of time. It’s still one of the most beloved historical comedies in Russia with the timeless videography of Vadim Yusov, known for his collaboration with Andrei Tarkovsky. Shown shortly before “Tag der Städtebauförderung” on the 11th of May as part of the Speisekino programme, this film links the reflection on the heritage of post-Socialist housing estates to ZK/U’s current project ‘Rethink Open-Form’ and the upcoming renovation of the ZK/U building.
