Open studios, performance, video, installation and resident talks

OPENHAUS is an open-studio format that takes place every second month in ZK/U, inviting artists in residence and current project partners to open their studios to the public. It offers a unique opportunity to experience the diverse interests and creative processes of the artists, reflected in their own personal studios.

The current residents work on a range of topics, from collaboration in community or with non-humans, over cultural heritage and digital culture to climate change. Next to video and a collaborative workshop format on civic imagination and solidarity, performance and bodily presence will be at the center of the evening. Through movement and deliberate stillness, the artists work through grief and crisis, examine linguistic complexities or use their breath to expand ones perception.

Our longterm resident Ari, the peace statue currently placed in front of the ZK/U residency, will also be part of the program. For two months, Studio 6 has been transformed into a project workshop to explore questions of remembrance culture. During OPENHAUS, we will present you some of the work that has been happening here, along with performances and actions around Ari.

Another ZK/U project participating is Convivial Commons. Get to know our experimental circle of friends, a different approach to governing structures that will be aiding us in decision making. 

Rather than showcasing final results, OPENHAUS focuses on works-in-progress, allowing you to interact with the artists and learn about their artistic journey. This participatory and informal format invites the public to delve into the behind-the-scenes and engage with the work on a more personal level. It is a chance for both the artists and the community to connect and share ideas.
