Faraz Anoushahpour, Parastoo Anoushahpour, and Ryan Ferko present a collaborative video project initiated at ZK/U. During the Openhaus, there will be a screening of this work in progress. Every four days a conversation between the group is recorded and transcribed, bringing together locations, places, people, themes, and topics from each artist’s research. This ongoing dialogue gradually builds up a script for a film that negotiates three individual experiences of seeing a city.

Alicja Dobrucka

Vebjørg Hagene Thoe - Diamond Hunt

Vebjørg Hagene Thoe - Diamond Hunt

The title refers to the classic board game from Finland, popular all over Europe, where the participants travel through Africa to find diamonds and other gemstones, and the goal is to get out of the continent as soon as "The African star" is found. During the journey there are perils and dangers of the jungle, and even robbers occur.

Hagene Thoe is making an interactive installation with tapestries and objects, including also sound and photo, where she offers the public to explore the current Africa. The gems and robbers of today are of another category than in the game- like oil companies or charities- but the exploitation and colonization continues. The contents of the installation is being developed this fall, with the ZKU stay as an important part of the project. She is still researching, trying to get new knowledge about European colonial history, including the role of missionaries. There will be a teaser of the installation at the Openhaus.

Joanna Nordin

Kyung-Lae Oak - A new environmental colour in berlin

Kyung-Lae has been researching the environmental colours in Berlin (different areas: Moabit, Mitte, Tiergarten..etc) and she uses these colours in her works.

Kyung-Lae sees colours of a city as psychological indicators, implicitly revealing the social, economical and cultural background of a place. Colours can be seen as hieroglyphics that enables people who live in a city to go back to the space they experienced as an important factor which makes up the locality of a city.
