GÜTERMARKT MAY 2026

Bi-monthly market connecting the neighbourhood and showcasing local goods & handmade items
03 MAY 2026 / 11:00 – 19:00
ZK/U BerlinSiemensstr. 27, 10551, Berlin, Germany
On May 3, the Gütermarkt kicks off its new season and invites visitors to browse, discover, and join in the fun from 11:00 – 18:00. Visitors can look forward to a diverse market featuring flea market stalls, local arts and crafts, and creative hands-on activities. In addition to unique finds and handmade items, the Gütermarkt is once again offering a diverse supporting program this year: From live music and workshops to readings, it creates a vibrant meeting place for art, community, and exchange.
A highlight of the day is the graphic novel reading of Gras by Keum Suk Gendry-Kim (16:00 – 17:00, Upper Floor Classroom), taking place as part of Comic Invasion. The internationally acclaimed comic tells the moving story of the so-called “comfort women” and is based on interviews with survivor Lee Ok-sun. In cooperation with the Korea Verband e.V., the event creates a space for reflection on the culture of remembrance and historical responsibility—also in the context of the Ari Peace Statue currently on display at ZK/U.
The afternoon in the hall will be filled with music: From 15:00 – 16:00, the band Bussibaba will bring their very own blend of Berlin and Viennese influences to the stage with Viennese dialect, funky grooves, and tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Following that, the NOANDA Trio will present songs from their upcoming album I See You from 17:00 – 18:00. With neo-soul, jazz, and global influences, as well as multilingual lyrics, they create a multi-layered sound that bridges urban pop and the diversity of world music.
There’s plenty of opportunity to get creative too: The Story Map Workshop (13:00 – 16:00) invites mother-daughter pairs with migration experiences in particular to creatively document their personal stories. Please register here. In the workshop Exploring Colors in the City (15:00 – 17:00), you’ll artistically explore the hidden resources of urban nature.
A consignment sale will take place in the Glass House starting at 11:00, where lovingly curated one-of-a-kind items—from vintage clothing to costume elements—are looking for new owners. The arts and crafts at the market also showcase the diversity of the local scene: from the playful prints and ceramics by ARIMSOL to the unique illustrations by Yi Liu, which capture Berlin cityscapes in vibrant colors.
Kanapka Catering will provide culinary accompaniment for the day (starting at 12:00) with vegan, regional dishes.

For all bookworms, this edition of the GÜTERMARKT has a special offer: We will be selling items from the ZK/U Press archive at heavily discounted prices. ZK/U Press is a division of ZK/U dedicated to publishing critical content on urban topics. It offers artists, architects, and researchers a forum for discussion that also serves as an archive documenting their work. So, we’re doing some spring cleaning, and you have the chance to pick up new books to browse through or give as gifts. Does that sound like a win-win? You can also look forward to many used books, especially in the fields of art, architecture, community, and urbanism, at bargain prices!
11:00 – 19:00 Wardrobe Sale
From her collection of work pieces from Berlin’s independent arts scene, Lea Søvsø is offering lovingly curated one-of-a-kind items: from vintage pieces to costume elements, shoes, and accessories, all the way to everyday clothing. Perfect for anyone who works creatively with clothing or is looking for a special, affordable costume piece. Lea is also happy to share ideas and inspiration for up-cycling.
11:00 – 18:00 Moabit Plastic Recycling Creative "Wertstatt"
True to our theme of “Plastic as a Recyclable Material & Recycling,” we’ve put together a small workshop this time focused on toy and collectible figures. Using 3D printing pens and colorful plastic parts, participants will craft imaginative miniatures. In the process, they’ll learn how something new can be created from recycled and salvaged materials. It’s essentially scratch-building using manual 3D printing techniques.
12:00 – 18:00 Lockpicking Workshop Knowledge Wiki of the Sportsfreunde der Sperrtechnik Deutschland e.V.
The purpose of the association is to promote lockpicking as a sporting challenge. By “Sperrtechnik,” we mean all methods and knowledge used to restrict access through mechanical and/or electronic means (locks, locking systems, and other security technology). Furthermore, the association aims to facilitate the exchange of information, which we intend to achieve through our Knowledge Wiki, among other means. Do you want to learn how to pick a lock yourself? Then our public workshop at the GÜTERMARKT is the perfect place for you!
15:00 – 16:00 Concert: Bussibaba
Bussi Baba make music in the Viennese dialect—with a Berlin base and Viennese roots. The band writes about everyday life, love, and the big questions, always with a wink. Funky grooves meet honest lyrics.
17:00 – 18:00 Concert: NOANDA Trio
The NOANDA Trio presents songs from their upcoming album I See You—and at the same time, their new vocalist: Spanish singer Monica Saba perfectly complements the Berlin band’s multi-layered sound. Blending neo-soul, jazz, and global influences, they create songs that playfully dissolve stylistic boundaries—sometimes with echoes of Amy Winehouse, sometimes with flamenco, funk, or Arabic elements. Multilingual lyrics in English, Spanish, and Arabic tell stories of love, empowerment, and empathy. Backed by internationally experienced musicians, NOANDA blends urban soul-pop with the diversity of world music—a rousing plea for openness, community, and artistic curiosity.
16:00 – 17:00 Graphic Novel Reading
A special reading from the internationally acclaimed graphic novel ‘Grass’ by Keum Suk Gendry-Kim. Based on extensive interviews with survivor Lee Ok-sun, the work tells the story of the so-called “comfort women” during the Japanese colonial period and World War II. Through powerful visual storytelling, the graphic novel combines personal memories with historical accounts and gives a voice to experiences that remained unheard for a long time.
Since early 2026, the peace statue “Ari,” which was previously erected in Berlin-Moabit, has been temporarily housed at ZK/U following its removal from public space. The reading in this context creates a space for reflection on historical memory, eyewitness accounts, and the ongoing public dialogue surrounding the commemoration of the victims.
The event is organized in collaboration with the Korea Verband e.V.
13:00 – 16:00 Story Map Workshop (BRIGHT Project)
In this intergenerational DIY workshop, daughters of migrant backgrounds will work together with their mothers to create a personal story map: a little book for folding, collecting, and storytelling. Through drawings, collages, texts, and objects, they’ll develop their very own ways of capturing memories. Please register here.
Supported by the BAMF.
15:00 – 17:00 Workshop by Ort-Schafft-Material – Exploring Colors in the City
What colors can be found in the city? What plants grow between cobblestones, on the roadside, or on vacant lots—and how can they be used artistically? Together, we’ll discover the small resources of urban nature and experiment on-site with colors from collected leaves, flowers, or food scraps. Using simple tools and reused materials, we’ll create individual city portraits in color: open to all ages.
