ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics is an artist residency, a research and production site for societal issues, and a platform for exhibitions, conferences, workshops, and other formats. Founded by the artist collective KUNSTrePUBLIK and inaugurated in 2012, ZK/U is located in a former freight station in the Stadtgarten Moabit. It serves as a nexus for the exchange between global discourses and local practice, with the aim of sharing, developing, and making experiences publicly accessible to other stakeholders and cultural practitioners.

Up to 13 national and international artists and urban researchers live and work simultaneously at ZK/U, undertaking artistic projects during multi-month residencies, the results and processes of which are regularly presented to the public. The ZK/U continuously conducts a multitude of projects and practices focused on artistic research and social innovation. These activities include regular formats such as OPENHAUS, GÜTERMARKT, and SPEISEKINO, as well as cultural EU partner projects and neighborhood formats.

Through numerous social and cultural projects, ZK/U artistically addresses urban societal challenges. ZK/U is operated by the non-profit association KUNSTrePUBLIK e.V., with 10-20 individuals working in residency management, project coordination, and event management, depending on project demands.

Since its founding, ZK/U has collaborated with over 800 artists in residence, organized more than 400 exhibitions, cooperated with over 150 different cultural institutions worldwide, and receives more than 20,000 visitors annually. ZK/U aims to connect global discourses with local practices, sharing, developing, and making the acquired experiences publicly accessible.
