Domen Šuman

(Slovenia)

Domen Šuman, born in 1999 in Slovenia, is a young director and dramaturg based in Prague. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre at DAMU (Academy of Performing Arts in Prague). His current focus is on visual storytelling and the use of visual storyboards in theatre productions. He is researching how to de-hierarchize the performing space between humans and more-than-human entities. His work involves precise observation of reality, which he then transforms into fantasy worlds where these observations become clearer.

Šuman's most prominent work includes "When I Die, Play Me..." (DAMU, 2022), a performance that led to his inclusion in the "New Blood" support program for young artists organized by Nova Siť. His final bachelor show was "UNCANNY: Fear Has Big Eyes" (DISK, 2023). As a dramaturg, he has collaborated with a variety of artists from around the world, including Valtteri Alanen (Finland), Jasmine Molinari (Italy), Karol Filo (Slovakia), Susana Botero Santos (Colombia), Jana Nunčič (Slovenia), and Anežka Fišárková (Czech Republic). With Susana Botero Santos performance “Fasciarium” (DISK, 2022) they were invited to Mladi levi festival in Ljubljana.
