Banu Ciçek Tülü


Banu Çiçek Tülü is an independent curator from Turkey, currently living and working in New York, where she is a PhD student and Teaching Assistant in Urban Systems Program at NJIT/Rutgers. She held her B.A. from Urban and Regional Planning at Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul. For the past years, she has been developing her ideas and research through extra-disciplinary praxis by acting as an initiator of diverse research projects that utilize curatorial, editorial and academic methodologies. Her research interests coalesce around some of the most enduring themes of urban studies such as artistic/ architectural interventions in public space, radical democracy and contemporary urban problems related to multi-ethnic communities, conflict spaces.  She gained her M.A. degree first in Urban Design: Art, City and Society at University of Barcelona, secondly in Museum Studies and Critical Theory: The Independent Studies Program (PEI) at Museum of Contemporary Art Barcelona/ Autonomous University of Barcelona.  Recently, she is working on her dissertation about East Mediterranean Cities in border context after Post-Modernism. She is the co-editor of Muhtelif (Criticism and Contemporary art publication based in Istanbul) since 2008 and an audiophile.
