In the upcoming April, the first curated film program New Woman, New Narrative brings an award-winning, engaging and moving feature documentary about Yu Xiuhua, a rural woman who becomes the best-known poet in China overnight, her literature journey, her personal life in reality and her inner expressions.
Her candid attitude towards love and sexuality embodied in her poetic language is widely celebrated while leading to some controversy. She is regarded by critics and media as “China's Emily Dickinson”. Meanwhile, the conflict in her family is scaled up sharply by her determination to divorce her husband after their two-decade-long arranged marriage.
