The social trading firm Gyalpa opens a workshop in Berlin in mid-November. Namely at the magical and ample place for Arts and meeting: the ZK/U - Center for Arts and Urbanistics, in Moabit.
Gyalpa supports workshops in Syria and Beirut, where handmade accessoires are produced. From hand-embroidered laptop-cases, over sports bags to hand-woven towels, cosmetic bags and scarfs. Up to threehundred displaced persons, mostly from Syria or Beirut - especially women – have work and are able to support their families in this way. The products get disposed very succesful in stores located in Berlin,
Given the number of new arrivals out of war zones who arrive in Berlin, Gyalpa grants displaced persons the opportunity, in the context of a workshop, to produce accessoires with mosaic technique. Further types of hand-craft will follow soon.
Under the direction of the Syrian artist Wasim Ghrioui, we offer a free three-week lasting workshop, from the 30th of November until the 19th of December, which includes 45 practice-lessons.
Here the work with glass-mosaic can be learned and products like trays, mirrors, trivets and tables etc. could get produced. These products will be sold in the webshop of Gyalpa and other markets. The sales revenue goes to the producers.
The workshop is held in english and arabic language. The travel expenses get paid by Gyalpa e.V. Overall 8 persons can join this workshop.
Who can attend the workshop?
All interested parties who are older than 18 and speak arabic or english. We are pleased about ever y serious interested person who wants to work creatively – previous knowledge is not necessary. Childcare is also provided and women are explicitly requested!
