For a long time now he has been interested in the question, "What does data want? Or to ask the question another way, "If the individual pixels in an image were free to go wherever they could, would they remain where they were"? For his residency at ZK\U he wants to research and develop ways to manipulate images using algorithms developed from biological and organic processes. His fantasy is to treat each pixel as an individual actor with its own desires and dreams. In his code generated images the pixels begin to wander across the screen following their unknown plans.
The goal of the residency will be a series of large scale prints, based on manipulated found material. These images should point to the ways we and our data, the images in our cell phones for example, are strangely entangled, enacting a weird mixing of human meaning and a pure data based intentionality. These weird images are for him a form of human/data interspecies communication. In other words: a way of asking data what it wants.
