Ana Barata Martins ( Portugal )

During the residency at ZK/U, Ana Barata Martins will be working in two projects that approach different ideas of relating with the urban space. One of them investigates urban green spaces and public parks as a form of living archive to problematize imperialist and romantic visions that portray nature as passive and subservient to human manipulation. It hopes to disrupt the myths of nature as a bucolic backdrop and a guest in the human realm. Another project rethinks vernacular memory aid artifacts by recreating them as a recording and mapping tool of the city landscape registering its topology, timeline and spatial symbols. The idea is to become aware and reinterpret the scale at which we communicate as a society and how we disseminate knowledge.
